Dramatic finishes to many finals matches

THERE were dramatic finishes to several matches across last weekend’s start to the Bendigo Junior Football League’s finals series.

Margin in two matches was four points.

South Bendigo scored a 26-22 victory against Eaglehawk Eagles in the under-12A elimination final.

The Bloods and Eagles played on Sunday on the White Hills ground.

South Bendigo’s attack was led by Henry Macnee on three goals as Jed Hardinge was also on target.

The Hawks’ goalkickers were Xavier Docksey, Alex Hinton and Fraser Rhoden.

Best for South Bendigo were Duke Thurgood, Hunter Tomlins, Henry Macnee and Benji Herdman.

Alex Hinton, Riley Crapper, Fraser Rhoden, Bailey Stone, Dustin Baines and Alfie Hinton played well for the Eagles.

Strathfieldsaye marked a 27-25 win against Mount Pleasant in the under-15 Girls, reserves elimination final.

Storm overcame a 0-12 start at Toolleen to trail 10-19 by half-time.

Mount Pleasant kicked away to lead 25-12 at three quarter-time.

In the last it was Storm which did all the attacking.

Strathfieldsaye’s tally of 2.3 as it kept the Blues scoreless in the final term was enough to clinch victory.

Scarlett Woodmore kicked two goals as Maggie Millar added another for Storm.

Mount Pleasant’s attack was led by Willow Dellar on four goals.

Best for Strathfieldsaye were Cammie Fitzgerald, Rebel Connors, Colbie O’Bree, Billie and Bonnie Bortolotto, and Maggie Millar.

Georgia Rankin, Emily Brown, Willow Dellar, Grace Kerr, Ruby Reid and Poppy Long played well for Mount Pleasant.

North Bendigo fought on to claim a four-point win against Mount Pleasant in the under-14 reserves, division two elimination final in Toolleen.

It was 13-all at quarter-time before North Bendigo won the second term, 3-1.

Mount Pleasant opened up a 14-point buffer by three quarter-time after it scored 4.4 and kept the Bulldogs to just two goals.

In the last it was North Bendigo which did plenty of attacking.

The red, white and blue scored 4.2 and kept the Blues to a tally of 1.2.

By the final siren North Bendigo led 54-50.

Aiden West kicked two goals for the Bulldogs.

The Blues’ attack was led by Cooper Roberts and Kaydin Walsh on two majors.

Best for North Bendigo were Rhiley Carter, Isaac Widdicombe, Rex Hunt, Liam Kerr, Jordan Rainsbury and Tadym Borserio.

Mount Pleasant’s best were Kaydin Walsh, Owen O’Sullivan, Jackson Roberts, Brock Checkley, Levi Magee and Charlie Torr.

A goal separated Golden Square and South Bendigo at the end of the under-16 seniors first semi-final in White Hills.

The Bulldogs led 20-14 at quarter-time before the Bloods dominated the second.

As South Bendigo scored 4.4 in the second quarter it kept the blue and gold scoreless.

By half-time the Bloods led 42-20.

Golden Square struck back to win the third quarter, 26-15.

The Dogs’ run kept rolling as they added 3.1 in the last and kept the Bloods to just two behinds.

At the final siren Golden Square led 65-59.

Jack Allen, Charlie Macumber and Xavier Stone all kicked two goals for Golden Square.

The Bloods’ attack was led by captain Riley Davey on three as Max Kornmann chipped in with two.

Best for Golden Square were Jack Allen, Tyler Wescott, Seth Ahearn, Oisin Dunne, Will Donnelly and Carter Andrews.

South Bendigo’s best were Harvey Keating, Rylan Newman, Zavier Ralphs, Noah Poole, Riley Davey and Charlie Cook.
