MAIDEN Gully YCW Eagles and Calivil United have jumped to first and second on the A-grade ladder after Saturday’s ninth round of netball in the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley Football Netball League.
As Marong had the bye, the Eagles and Demons scored important wins.
Maiden Gully YCW dominated play on its court at Marist College Bendigo to score an 84-25 win against Bears Lagoon-Serpentine.
The red-hot form of Calivil United rolled on as the Demons won 50-25 at Holloway Air Riverside Park in Newbridge.
The windy conditions made it tough for goalers, although Amy Murfitt and Mia McCrann-Peters did well to capitalise on the dominance of a mid-court led by Tia Steen and Jarileey Scholtes.
Calivil United is jointly coached by Karen Pascoe and Teigan Redwood.
Best players for the Selina Holland-coached Newbridge were Brianna Burt and Sarah Lovell.
Mitiamo was under extreme pressure in the final term of its clash with Bridgewater on the Superoos’ court at John Forbes Oval.
The Superoos led by 10 goals at the start of the last quarter, but Bridgewater upped its workrate in all thirds and capitalised in attack to take a two-goal lead.
The Laura Hicks-coached Mitiamo fought back to complete a hard-fought 67-62 victory.
The win kept the Superoos just two points adrift of Marong in the battle for a top-three finish and double chance at finals time.
Best for Bridgewater was Claudia Collins in attack.
