Eagles flying high in many age groups

MAIDEN Gully YCW Eagles is flying high across three age groups in this season’s Bendigo Junior Football League matches.

The Eagles are fielding six teams in a competition proudly supported by Bendigo Bank, Cavalier Homes and Champions IGA.

The winning streak for Maiden Gully YCW’s under-12A team was ended in last Saturday’s match against South Bendigo.

A superb contest between the Eagles and young Bloods ended on 68-all at Marist College in Maiden Gully.

The Bloods led 38-26 at half-time, but the Eagles fought back to win the third quarter, 56-40.

In the last it was South Bendigo which scored 4.4 and kept the Eagles to a tally of two goals.

At the final siren Maiden Gully YCW Eagles was on 11.2 (68) as South’s score was 10.8 (68).

Goalkickers for the Eagles were Ryder Cavaliar on four; Hudson Membery and Ned Wickham on three, and Finn Mitrovic.

Best for Maiden Gully YCW were Jake Wiltshire, Mason Barker, Tommy Clapp, Mason Fitzgerald, Owen Bell and Hudson Membery.

The Eagles won the under-16 reserves, division one clash with Maryborough by 13 points.

Playing on home turf at Marist College, Maiden Gully YCW turned a three-point deficit at quarter-time into a nine-point lead at half-time.

The Magpies won the third term, 19-18, as Maiden Gully YCW led 56-48 going into the final quarter.

As the Eagles scored 3.2, Maryborough added 2.3.

Maiden Gully YCW marked a 76-63 victory in which Joel Wittingslow kicked three goals and Jack Moresi and Kyan Stuchbree added two each.

Other goalkickers for the Eagles were Cooper Attard, Josh Bellenger, Ryder Demeo, Cruz Dowler and Declan Downing.

Maiden Gully YCW’s best were Cruz Dowler, Leo Wilson, Kyan Stuchbree, Riley dylan Verdon, Joel Wittingslow and Rhiley Grinham-Reid.

It was closely-fought under-14 seniors match between Maiden Gully YCW and Sandhurst.

The Eagles led 32-15 at half-time and 38-23 at a quarter to play.

In the final term the Dragons fired up to score 3.3 and kept the Eagles scoreless to claim a 44-38 win at Marist College.

Goalkickers for the Eagles were Jordan Barker on three; Riley Muir on two; and Harry Clapp.

The Eagles’ best were Harry Clapp, Noah Lowry, William Waters, Archer Langley, Jordan Barker and Riley Muir.

It was Maiden Gully YCW against Sandhurst in the under-14 reserves, division one match at Marist College.

Sandhurst charged to a 33-nil lead by quarter-time.

The Eagles fought back to win the second and third terms, 15-9 and 12-8.

Sandhurst then slammed on five goals in the final quarter as the Eagles added a major.

At the final siren the maroon and blue led 81-33.

Goalkickers for the Eagles were Dayne Stone on three; Jagger Benaim and Ryder Cavalier.

Tyson Penrose, Dayne Stone, Ben Fowler, Axel Derrick, Jagger Benaim and Henry Rossignuolo played well for Maiden Gully YCW.

In the under-12B competition, Maiden Gully YCW played Heathcote at Marist College.

The Saints dominated most of the play to record a 109-19 victory.

Goalkickers for the Eagles were Charlie Barnes, Mac Doherty and Xavier Mozzone.

The Eagles’ best were Harrison Billett, Aston Fitzpatrick, Archer Shanahan, Louis Kellow, Nash Ryan and Xavier Mozzone.

The under-12D clash between Maiden Gully YCW and Golden Square was played at Golden Square’s Wade Street ground.

The blue and gold won 21-9.

Tennyson Barnett was on target for the Eagles.

Best for Maiden Gully YCW were Wyatt Membery, Tennyson Barnett, Lawson Burke, Oliver Downing, Ed Duggan and Elliott Penny.
