Eagles soar to victory against Cohuna

MALLEE Eagles broke the unbeaten streak of the Cohuna Kangas in Saturday’s fifth round of Radio 3SH-backe senior footy in the Central Murray league.

The Eagles were on home turf in Lalbert for the match of the round.

Mallee led 21-7 at quarter-time and 33-23 by the long break.

Cohuna fought back strongly to win the third term, 27-22.

Just five points separated the teams at the start of the last quarter.

The Harry Allen and Brent Macleod-coached Eagles responded to the challenge brilliantly.

Mallee did plenty of attacking and scored 4.2 as Cohuna added a behind.

At the final siren Mallee led 81-51.

Troy Anderson, Darcy Hourigan and Andrew Mead-Harding all finished on two goals for the Eagles.

Sole multiple goalkicker for Cohuna was Hudson Fountain on two.

Mallee’s best were Harry Allen, Cameron Cook, Toby Sheahan, Troy Anderson, Tom McGregor and Zac O’Meara.

Joel Helman, Ricky Monti, Hudson Fountain, Daniel Coates, Sam McGlone and Corbin Anderson played well for the Jack Geary-coached Kangas.

Koondrook Barham turned a 14-point deficit at half-time into a 31-point lead by the final siren at Lake Boga Sports Club.

The Dean Helmers-coached Lake Boga scored seven straight goals in the first term to open up a 21-point lead.

Although the KB line-up won the second, 24-17, it was the Magpies who held a 14-point buffer at the long break.

Momentum swung dramatically in the third quarter as the Marcus Demaria-coached Koondrook Barham slammed on 6.6 and kept the Magpies to a tally of four behinds.

The Rivers Raiders’ run did not led up as they won the final term, 21-14.

Patrick Goble kicked four goals and Ryleigh Wilkinson added three in a 108-77 victory.

Other multiple goalkickers for the River Raiders were Matt Bilton and Lee Dale on two.

Lake Boga’s attack was led by Bryce Anderson and Nathaniel Holmes-Brown on two.

Best for Koondrook Barham were Lee Dale, Benji Neal, Patrick Goble, Ryleigh Wilkinson, Jack Thomas and Jack Thrum.

Rory Colville, Nelson Ibbs, Darby Hayes, Marty Parsons, Koben Ryan and Dylan McCosh were Lake Boga’s best.

Kerang could not halt Woorinen’s charge to an 82-point win at Kerang’s Riverside Park.

The Tigers led 38-1 at quarter-time, but Kerang fought back to score 2.1 in the second as Woorinen added 2.3.

The Tim Free-coached Tigers added five goals in the third and another three in the last on the way to a 113-31 result.

Matt Perry capped a great match with five goals as Will Collicoat kicked three goals.

Other multiple goalkickers for the Tigers were Jye Barry and Lachlan Warburton with two.

Zak Bozanich kicked two goals for Kerang.

Woorinen’s best were Lachlan Warburton, Taylor Cameron, Henry Thompson, Jye Barry, Matt Perry and Kane Reid.

Rylee Gitsham, Jonah McKnight, Martin Kelly, Cooper Meehan, Flynn McKnight and Tyson Clingan played well for the Paul Grayling-coached Blues.

Nyah Nyah West United returned to the winners’ list in emphatic fashion.

The NNWU Demons won every quarter on their way to a 164-37 victory against Balranald at Nyah Recreation Reserve.

A highlight for the Demons was third term in which they scored nine goals.

The NNWU attack was led by Nick O’Neill on six goals as Charlie Boulton booted five.

Other multiple goalkickers for the Demons were Tristan Dalbon on three, and Alex Birch, Riley Daniels and Zack Threadgold on two.

Balranald co-coach Ben Fuller kicked two goals.

Best for the Demons were Jaydyn Stirling, Nick O’Neill, Joel Walsh, Alex Erlandson, Brayden Bigham and Charlie Boulton.

The Demons are coached by Corey Daniels and Jason Murphy.

Cody Henness, co-coach Jack Salau, Tanner Coulthard, Lachlan Bence, Jack Helgeland and Ryan Middlebook were Balranald’s best.

The Kangaroos also have Ben Mahon as a co-coach.

The Saints from Tooleybuc Manangatang have climbed to the fourth rung on the ladder following a 98-point win against Swan Hill at Tooleybuc.

The Brad Morris-coached Saints marched to a 43-7 lead by quarter-time and then slammed on 6.4 as it kept the Swans to a score of three behinds in the second.

Tooleybuc Manangatang’s intensity did not drop as it won the third term, 26-8.

Most even quarter was the last which went 20-19 in favour of the Saints.

Connor Nutting kicked four goals as Jackson Brown, Isaac Franks, Connor McDonald, Jedd Morris, Zach Prentice, Seb Rogers chipped in with two each.

The Swans’ attack was led by Kallen Heslop and Will Simpson with two.

Best for the Saints were Connor McDonald, Josh Williams, Josh Domaille, Zach Prentice, Rydar Morris and Jack Templeton.

Cooper Angus, Tom Holdstock, Brenton Halligan, Will Simpson, Thomas Corridan and Perry Roberts were best for the Michael Herlihy-coached Swans.

Cohuna meets Kerang in the clash of the Kangaroos and Blues at Cohuna Recreation Reserve.

Balranald faces Mallee Eagles at Balranald’s Greenham Park.

Tyntynder takes on Nyah Nyah West United at Swan Hill’s Alan Garden Reserve.
