Eagles soar to victory at Tooleybuc

MALLEE Eagles soared to an impressive win against Tooleybuc Manangatang in Saturday’s 12th round of senior footy in the Radio 3SH-backed Central Murray league.

The Eagles made their way to the Saints’ ground in Tooleybuc.

It was a positive start by the Brad Morris-coached Saints as they led 25-16 by quarter-time.

Mallee hit back to win the second term, 25-6.

The Eagles held a 19-point buffer going into the final term.

Inspired by the play of Matthew Rankine, Darcy McGregor and Zac O’Meara, Mallee slammed on 10 goals in the last and kept the Saints to a tally of two majors.

By the final siren the Eagles led 124-58.

Rankine capped a best-on-ground performance with five goals as key forward Darcy Hourigan finished on four.

Other multiple goalickers were co-coach Brent Macleod and Clem Miller on two.

The Saints’ attack was led by Josh Koster on four.

Best for a Mallee team which has Harry Allen as co-coach included Jacob O’Meara, Isaiah Bull and Tom McGregor.

Tooleybuc Manangatang’s best were Elliot Chalmers, Connor Mcdonald, Ethan Johnstone, Blake Grant, John Wardle and Josh Koster.

 

Closest margin of the afternoon was at Lake Boga where the Magpies defeated Kerang by 19 points.

After Kerang raced to a 27-9 lead by quarter-time, Lake Boga hit back to be 35-all at half-time.

Just two points separated the teams going into the last term as the Magpies led 49-47.

The Dean Helmers-coached Lake Boga finished strongly to score five majors in the last as the Blues booted two goals.

Jayden Lonergan led Lake Boga’s attack on four goals as Nathaniel Holmes-Brown, Braden Padmore and Xavier Sherlock kicked two in an 80-61 victory.

Kerang’s leading goalkicker was Hugh Bremner on three.

Best for Lake Boga were Zac Warne, Koben Ryan, Nathaniel Holmes-Brown, Jayden Lonergan, Andrew McDonald and Braden Padmore.

Hugh Bremner, Thomas Hetherington, Bohden McKnight, Scott Pay, Cody Makeham and Cooper Meehan were best for the Paul Grayling-coached Blues.

It was a closely-fought match between Swan Hill and Nyah Nyah West United at Swan Hill Recreation Reserve.

The Michael Herlihy-coached Swans took it right up to the reigning premier.

At half-time the NNWU Demons led 44-36.

Nyah Nyah West United won term three, 15-7, and then scored three goals in the last as the Swans added two.

At the final siren the Demons led 83-58.

Co-coach Corey Daniels kicked three goals for NNWU as Tristan Dalbon and Alex Erlandson slotted two majors.

Swan Hill’s attack was led by Kallen Heslop with three goals as  Cooper Angus booted two.

Best for the Demons were Dominic Gallo, Jordan Iudica, Alex Erlandson, Lucas Iudica, Blake Larkings and Jaydyn Stirling.

NNWU has Jason Murphy as co-coach.

Swan Hill’s best were Tom Holdstock, Lachlan Vrolijks, Cooper Angus, Sam Brown, Lane Cardenas and Conner Arif.

After being outgunned in the first quarter, Tyntynder put up a great fight against Koondrook Barham in Barham.

The Tyntynder line-up was down 8-30 at quarter-time, but hit back.

It was a closely-fought game after the first term as the River Raiders scored 7.6 and Tyntynder racked up 6.5.

Nathan O’Toole kicked three goals as Kye Attwell and Ethan Reeves added two in a 78-49 win for the Marcus Demaria-coached Koondrook Barham.

Tyntynder’s leading goalkickers were co-coach Darcy Bibby and Elia Ware on two.

Best for the KB River Raiders were Roy George, Benji Neal, Nathan O’Toole, Reagan Hamilton, Isaac Corvo and Patrick Goble.

Josh Potter, Elia Ware, Mick Dedini, Sam Tozer, Harry Simpson and Darcy Bibby were best for the Bulldogs.

Tyntynder also has Justin Ellis and Charlie Ford as co-coaches.

It was another ruthless display by the unbeaten Woorinen against Balranald.

The Tigers and Kangaroos played out a closely-fought first term which went Woorinen’s way, 27-19.

In the second the Tim Free-coached Woorinen booted six goals and kept Balranald scoreless.

The yellow and black dominated the second half, 86-16, to record a 156-35 victory.

Doug Beames, Jose Miliado and Kyle Skene all kicked four goals.

Other multiple goalkickers for Woorinen were Will Collicoat, three; and Jordy McInnes and Lachlan Warburton on two.

Balranald had five players on target.

Best for Woorinen were Henry Thompson, Lachlan Warburton, Lachlan Gardner, Zack Ryan, Jose Miliado and Matt Gardner.

Will Lowry, co-coach Jack Salau, Jarryd Stead, Jack Helgeland, Ian Fuller and Lucas Griffiths played well for the Kangaroos.

Balranald also has Ben Fuller and Ben Mahon as co-coaches.

It was a bye for the Jack Geary-coached Cohuna Kangas.

Highlight will be the clash of the ladder-leading Woorinen and second-placed Mallee Eagles in Lalbert from 2.30pm.

Nyah Nyah West United tackles Cohuna Kangas in Nyah.

Lake Boga meets Swan Hill in the clash of the Magpies and Swans at Lake Boga Sports Club.

Kerang faces Koondrook Barham at Kerang’s Riverside Park.

Tyntynder will play Balranald at Swan Hill’s Alan Garden Reserve.

Tooleybuc Manangatang has the bye.
