TWO of the best teams in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL women’s football competition clash this Saturday at Kangaroo Flat’s Dower Park.
It’s third against first as Kangaroo Flat hosts the unbeaten Golden Square on the Bendigo Mazda Oval turf.
A big day of footy action on the Kangaroos’ ground includes the women’s match from 2.30pm after the Roos and Bulldogs have clashed in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo FNL’s under-18s, 10.30am start, and Bendigo FNL reserves, 12.20pm start.
The women’s match, held over from the second round of the CVFLW season, is the lead-in to the men’s senior footy showdown.
The Kangaroos will be striving to end Golden Square’s remarkable winning streak in CVFLW action.
Unbeaten premiers in 2019, Golden Square has a five-nil record this campaign.
Last meeting between these clubs was in the 2019 grand final where Square beat the Roos, 30-5 at Weeroona Oval.
In last Sunday’s play, Kangaroo Flat fought for a 26-16 win on Strathfieldsaye Storm’s turf at Triple M Park in Tannery Lane.
Golden Square was too strong for league newcomer Kerang as it won 124-2 at Fur Life Vet Oval in Wade Street.
Key players for Kangaroo Flat include Shelby Knoll in attack, Chloe Green, Ruby Campbell, Kelly Mensforth, Brianna Boldiston, Bridget O’Dwyer and Eloise Gretgrix.
Highs of Golden Square’s latest victory were the goalkicking feats of Tiahna and Ella Cochrane as they scored four and three goals respectively.
A powerful attack includes Letisha Stewart.
Other players to watch in the blue and gold include Sarah Baldwin, Lily Campbell, Amanda Carrod, Carly Ladson and Andrea Wilson.
In the league’s goalkicking race, Britney Mueck from Bendigo Thuder is a runaway leader on 26.
Next best are Eaglehawk’s Grace Edlin, 17; Bendigo Thunder’s Georgia Gordon and Strathfieldsaye’s Tameeka Morrissey, 12.
Kangaroo Flat star Shelby Knoll has kicked 11, and Golden Square’s Tiahna Cochrance has 10 goals in just four games.
