Nullawil makes way to A-grade netball grand final

NULLAWIL has qualified for the A-grade netball grand final after last Saturday’s victory against Murrabit in the Central Murray Football Netball League’s second semi-final.

A closely-fought first half on the Quambatook court ended with Nullawil in front, 17-16.

Beaten just once in the home-and-away series, Murrabit went into the second semi as favourite, but it was Nullawil which charged clear in the third term.

The Maroons scored 14 goals and kept Murrabit to six in the crucial third term.

A 9-6 tally in favour of Nullawil in the last completed a 42-28 victory as Sophie Peacock was best on court for the Maroons.

Murrabit’s best was Stephanie Reeves.

Gemma Fawcett scored a match-high 30 goals for Nullawil as Lauren Morrow and Grace Gillingham led Murrabit’s attack on 15 and 13 goals.

 

It was a closely-fought contest in B-grade between Murrabit and Nullawil.

The Murrabit line-up led 20-18 at half-time and both teams scored eight goals in the third quarter.

In the last it was Murrabit which added eight goals and kept the Maroons to a tally of five on the way to a 36-31 victory.

Jo Danson led Murrabit’s attack on 25 goals as Olivia Monk added seven and Erica Cummins chipped in with four.

Goalscorers for Nullawil were Holly Fawcett, 17; and Jacki Watts, 14.

Best on court were Aimee Sinclair for Murrabit, and Sophie Mathiske for Nullawil.

A tally of 35 goals earned Teish Nethercote best on court honours for Murrabit in a 38-28 win against Nullawil.

In front by four goals at half-time, Murrabit won the third term, 10-4, as both line-ups scored 11 goals in the last.

It was Nethercote who starred in Murrabit’s attack, while Emalie O’Toole added three goals.

Nullawil’s attack was led by Lizzy McGrath, 13; and Joanne Scott, 9; as Regan Kelly was best on court for the Maroons.

The 17-and-under match ended in a 37-24 win for Ultima against Nullawil.

 

A century reached in the 14-and-under match as Nullawil marked a 60-40 win against Ultima.

Preliminary finals will be played this Saturday at Wandella.

 

Schedule for the day’s netball action:

14-and-under at 9.45am: Macorna v Ultima.

17-and-under at 11am: Macorna v Nullawil.

A-grade at 12.15pm: Macorna v Murrabit.

B-grade at 1.30pm: Moulamein v Nullawil.

B-reserve at 2.25pm: Hay v Nullawil.

Grand final day is on September 10 at Nullawil.
