Nullawil meets Murrabit in three netball grand finals

IT will be a triple-treat of showdowns for Nullawil and Murrabit netball fans at this Saturday’s running of the Golden Rivers Football Netball League grand finals on the Nullawil court.

The Maroons and Blues will do battle in the premiership deciders for A-grade, B-grade and B-reserve.

Beaten just once in the run to the finals, Murrabit was beaten 42-28 in the second semi-final showdown with Nullawil.

The home-and-away matches ended in wins for the Blues against the Maroons by seven goals each time.

In the second semi it was Nullawil which led 17-16 at half-time of the clash on Quambatook’s court.

The Maroons won the third term, 14-6, and the last, 9-6, to complete a 14-goal victory.

Gemma Fawcett scored a match-high 30 goals for Nullawil and will again be a major threat to the Blues defence.

Sophie Peacock earned best on court in Nullawil’s latest victory.

Best for the Blues was Stephanie Reeves as Lauren Morrow scored 15 goals and Grace Gillingham added 15.

 

This season’s meeting between B-grade grand finalists Nullawil and Murrabit stand at three-nil in favour of the Blues.

Murrabit won on Nullawil’s court in round four by eight goals and then 42-31 at home in the 11th round.

The second semi-final went the way of the Blues, 36-31, as Jo Danson scored 25 goals and Aimee Sinclair was best on court.

Nullawil’s goalscorers were Holly Fawcett, 17; and Jacki Watts, 14; as Sophie Mathiske was adjudged best.

The Maroons scored a 30-26 victory in a hard-fought preliminary final with Moulamein.

In B-reserve, Murrabit takes on Nullawil.

The Blues won by nine goals at Nullawil in round four, but the Maroons fought on for a 34-33 victory at Murrabit in the 11th round.

Teish Nethercote scored 35 goals and was best on court as Murrabit marked a 38-28 win against Nullawil in the second semi-final.

Regan Kelly was Nullawil’s best in that clash.

The Maroons outplayed Hay, 45-20, in the preliminary final.

 

Ultima takes on Macorna in the 17-and-under grand final.

The Roos have won all three showdowns with the Tigers in the run to the season decider.

In round three, Ultima beat Macorna, 33-22, and followed up with a 26-18 result on the Tigers’ court in the 10th round.

Macorna won the first semi-final against Wandella, 37-35, and a week later Ultima scored a 37-24 win against Nullawil in the second semi.

Preliminary final was at the home of the Wandella Bombers where Macorna won a thrilling contest with Nullawil, 29-28, to earn a crack at the Roos to decide this season’s champion team.

Grand final day will start with the 14-and-under match between Nullawil and Ultima at 9.45am.

In the second semi-final, Nullawil scored a 60-40 win against Ultima.

The Roos bounced back for a 51-41 win against Macorna in last Saturday’s preliminary final.

Nullawil beat Ultima by margins of 12 and 49 goals in rounds two and nine.

 

Schedule for Saturday’s grand finals at Nullawil:

14-and-under at 9.45am: Nullawil v Ultima.

17-and-under at 10.45am: Ultima v Macorna.

A-grade at 12.15pm: Nullawil v Murrabit.

B-grade at 1.30pm: Murrabit v Nullawil.

B-reserve at 3.15pm: Murrabit v Nullawil.
