Blues win tough contest on Moulamein’s turf

THE Murrabit Blues fought on to score a seven-point win at Moulamein in Saturday’s 10th round of senior footy in the Golden Rivers season.

After racing to a 31-9 lead by quarter-time, Murrabit was under pressure as the Swans won the second term, 26-19.

Both teams added a goal in the third as the Blues led 58-44 going into the final quarter.

Although the Swans scored 2.1, a goal by Murrabit was enough to seal a 64-57 victory.

Murrabit’s attack was led by Patrick Bryan on four goals as Dean Harrop added three.

The Swans had Heath Moloney and Lochlan Prentice kick two goals each.

Best for Murrabit were Jacob Wade, Patrick Bryan, Jordan Lampi, Pras Sayakhot, Ryan Manning and Dean Harrop.

Moulamein’s best were Kaylem Hartley, Ethan Fitzpatrick, Morgan Turvey, Heath Moloney, Cody Storm and Lochlan Prentice.

Ultima kept Macorna goalless in a 75-point win at Ultima Recreation Reserve.

The Kangaroos led 16-nil at quarter-time and then scored 4.2 to just three behinds in the second.

Ultima won the third term, 19-2, and then added 4.4 as Macorna tallied three behinds in the final term.

At the siren the Kangaroos led 83-8.

The in-form Ryan Devereux kicked five goals as Martyn Cooper and Jay Reynolds added two each.

A list of Ultima’s best was not supplied.

Macorna’s best were Kurt Forfder, Laing Whinfield, Harley Somerville, Reegan O’Rourke, Josh Berryman and Johnny Dawes.

Six goals to nil in the first term set up Hay’s big win at Wandella.

The Lions led 41-2 at quarter-time.

It was a closely-fought second term which went Hay’s way, 26-24.

Led by the play of Jacob Watson, Jack Headon and Jensen Hargreaves it was the Lions who charged clear for a 118-42 result.

Five goals earned Jacob Watson best afield honours as William Collis kicked four goals for Hay.

Other multiple goalkickers for the Lions were Jensen Hargreaves, Jack Headon and Declan Watson with two each.

Wandella’s attack was led by Michael Rowe with three.

Best for Hay were Jacob Watson, Jack Headon, Jensen Hargreaves, Daniel Stewart, Joel Crocker and Jack Cattanach.

Jarred Schlitz, Archer Lancaster, Jack Radcliffe, Logan Keighran, Jayden Crellin and Tim Robinson worked hard for the Bombers.

Golden Rivers senior footy ladder:

Hay 312 per cent, 40 points; Ultima 222, 32; Wandella 82, 20; Macorna 69, 16; Murrabit 55, 8; Moulamein 54, 4.

There will be no play on July 6 as the league takes a rest for school holidays.

When the season resumes on July 13 it will be Murrabit at home for a round 11 showdown with Hay starting at 2.25pm.

Moulamein faces Ultima at Moulamein Recreation Reserve.

Wandella and Macorna meet in the clash of the Bombrs and Tigers on Wandella’s turf.
