GRFNL Round 11 Football Preview | Bombers target another upset at Macorna

BY NATHAN DOLE

WANDELLA is eyeing another upset when it plays at Macorna in Saturday’s 11th round of senior footy in the Golden Rivers FNL season.

A 20-point win at home by Wandella against Moulamein in the 10th round has put the Bombers within a win of the fourth-placed Macorna.

The Macorna Tigers will start favourite when the clash kicks off at 2.25pm.

Teams are back in action after last weekend’s general bye.

In round seven the Tigers beat the Bombers by 81 points at Macorna.

On that day it was Lachlan Ritchie who kicked five goals in a best afield performance and Nick Ingleton, Shaun Haffenden and Harley Somerville starred for the yellow and black.

Wandella marked its best performance of the season just a fortnight ago when it stunned the second-placed Moulamein in a 101-81 result.

The Bombers had Michael Rowe kick five goals and Matt Wilkinson chip in with three.

Russell Rich, Adam Ward, Declan Hogg and Jack Radcliffe were best for the red and black.

Wandella’s team to tackle the Tigers includes Jack Danckert, Ryan Lancaster and Shannon Burton.

It’s third against first as Hay hosts Ultima.

The Lions will be trying to break the Kangaroos’ unbeaten streak.

In round seven it was Ultima which won 86-52 against Hay.

Latest hit-out for Hay was at Macorna where it won by 37 points.

In-form players for the Lions include Kenneth Jubb, Andrew Low, James Moran, Declan Watson and Daniel Zambon.

Ultima has had Darcy Farrell, Mitch and Tyler Makepeace, and Kyle Symons winning many contests.

The Roos’ line-up to play Hay includes Jayden Kiel, Ryan Devereux and Riley Haberman.

Stung by the loss to Wandella last round, Moulamein is back home to take on Murrabit.

When these clubs met in round seven the Swans from Moulamein had to fight for a 73-66 victory.

Murrabit marked back-to-back wins when it took on Wandella and then Macorna in rounds eight and nine.

The Blues’ run was stopped in an 11-goal loss at Ultima in the 10th round.

Key players for a Moulamein team which now has a 7-3 record after consecutive defeats include Blake Azzopardi, Will Gibson, Luke Shannon, and Cody Storm.

The Swans also have Andy Silva and Daniel Aarsman in attack.

Key match-up for the Swans will be at full-back against Murrabit star Damian Cupido.

A tally of 35 has Cupido who played at AFL level with Brisbane Lions and Essendon in front of the Golden Rivers goalkicking race.

The Blues will look to Dustin Blake, Rhys Carmichael, Michael Crossett, Ed and Jono Aujard, and Nathan O’Toole to lead the way to victory.
