Blues upset Tigers at Macorna

MURRABIT marked its third win of the season as it held on for a two-goal victory at Macorna in Saturday’s 12th round of the Golden Rivers senior footy action.

It was a closely-fought contest in the Tigers’ den.

The Blues led 21-20 at quarter-time before Macorna scored a goal and kept the visitors to a tally of two points in the second term.

At a quarter to play it was the yellow and black which led 33-32.

Murrabit finished the contest with plenty of run and was rewarded with a score of 2.2 as the Tigers added a behind.

At the final siren Murrabit led 46-34.

The Blues’ attack was led by Sam Copland and Pras Sayakhot on two goals.

Multiple goalkickers for Macorna were Malcolm Neiwand and Lachlan Ritchie on two.

Best for Murrabit were Pras Sayakhot, Ben Gillingham, Archer McKnight, Austin McKerrow, Michael Grant and Jack Shannahan.

Lachlan Ritchie, Will Canham, Fergus Bear, Matthew Angel, Blake Forster and Josh Berryman were Macorna’s best.

Ultima kicked away in the final term to record a 58-21 win at home against Wandella.

Defences were on top for most of the first half.

Although Ultima did plenty of attacking its score of 2.9 meant Wandella was within 14 points at half-time.

The Kangaroos won the third term, 15-12, and then scored 3.6 to just two behinds in the last.

Ultima’s attack was led by Matt Taverna on three goals.

There were no multiple goalkickers for the Bombers.

Best for the Roos were Lincoln Frost, Cameron Johnson, Mitchell Seton-Stewart, Ed Kuchel, Jake Foster and Thomas Bull.

Sam Taylor, Laing Waddingham, Tim Robinson, John Cooper, Nathan Boysen and Adam McKenzie played well for the red and black.

The unbeaten Hay dominated its home game against Moulamein.

As the Lions scored 18.15 (123) they kept the Swans to a tally of 1.3 (9).

Hay’s attack was led by Kenneth Jubb on seven goals.

Other multiple goalkickers for the Lions were Jack Headon, three; Jack Cattanach and Jock Crighton two.

Will Gibson goaled in the second quarter for Moulamein.

Best for Hay were Hugh Crighton, Kenneth Jubb, Brad Pocock, Jayden Kinces, Daniel Stewart and Nathan Wilson.

Will Gibson, Ely Miller, Kaylem Hartley, Morgan Turvey, Elijah Prentice and Cody Storm were best on a tough afternoon for the Swans.

The Hay Lions will be back in their den to play Macorna in next Saturday’s 13th round.

Murrabit hosts Ultima in the clash of the Blues and Kangaroos.

Moulamein tackles Wandella on the Swans’ deck at Moulamein Recreation Reserve.
