Hay dominates showdown with Macorna

THE Lions belted the Tigers as Hay took on Macorna in Saturday’s eighth round of senior footy in te Golden Rivers competition.

Hay was on home turf and dominated play.

The Lions raced to a 39-point lead by quarter-time and then scored 6.4 in the second.

As Hay slammed on 12.7 it kept the Tigers scoreless in the first half.

Macorna did goal in the third term, but by the end of it Hay led by 110 points.

It was a ruthless performance by the reigning premier as it added 10.6 to a goal in the last to complete a 170-point victory.

Leading goalkickers in Hay’s score of 28.16 (184) were Declan Watson, 12; Kenneth Jubb, five; Jensen Hargreaves, three; Jack Headon and Jacob Watson, two.

Macorna’s goalkickers were Ryan Dee and Will Meharry.

Best on an outstanding day for Hay were Declan and Jacob Watson, Jack Cattanach, Jack Headon, Jensen Hargreaves and Kenneth Jubb.

The Tigers’ best were Malcolm Neiwand, Travis Mercadante, Reegan O’Rourke, Ryan Dee, Xavier Wishart and John Officer.

Despite a wayward score of 12.24, Ultima was in control as it won at Murrabit by 44 points.

A closely-fought opening term went Ultima’s way, 36-22.

By half-time the Kangaroos had opened up a 25-point buffer.

Ultima won the third, 24-18, and then added 1.7 to nil in the last for a 96-52 result.

Kade Benfield kicked three goals for the Kangaroos as Zac Cattlin, Ryan Devereux, Corey Grey and Matt Taverna chipped in with two each.

Jack Shannahan kicked a match-high four goals for Murrabit.

Ultima’s best were Darcy Farrell, Cameron Johnson, Lincoln Frost, Edward Kuchel, Corey Grey and Jye Purtill.

Sam Copland, Jack Shannahan, Nathan O’Toole, Tobie Cameron, Archer McKnight and Ryan Manning were best for the Blues.

Wandella kicked away in the final quarter to score a 22-point win at home against Moulamein.

The Bombers were under pressure as Moulamein led 41-40 at half-time of a great contest in The Hangar.

In the third it was Wandella which outscored the Swans, 29-19.

Led by the play of Russell Rich, Logan Keighran and Jack Radcliffe, Wandella scored 4.2 to 2.1 in the last for a 95-73 result.

Logan Keighran kicked four goals for the red and black as Jayden Crellin, James Hipwell, Michael Rowe and Darren Rushton added two each.

Moulamein’s attack was led by Mark Drotsky and James White, three, and Heath Moloney, two.

Best for Wandella included Kaine O’Connell, Darren Rushton and Laing Waddingham.

Jayden Haeusler, Rodney Reeves, James White, Heath Moloney, Hunter Hartland and Ely Miller played well for the Swans.

Golden Rivers senior footy ladder:

Hay 362 per cent, 32 points; Ultima 230, 28; Wandella 85, 16; Macorna 71, 12; Murrabit 48.75, 4; Moulamein 48.72, 4.

A clash between first and second-placed Hay and Ultima in the Lions’ den from 2.25pm highlights next Saturday’s round nine action.

Macorna will be at home to take on Moulamein.

It’s the Blues against the Bombers as Murrabit hosts Wandella.
