Hay’s unbeaten streak rolls along

HAY’S unbeaten streak in the Golden Rivers senior footy action kept rolling in Saturday’s clash with Ultima.

It was first against second as Hay was on home turf against Ultima.

Scores were 15-all at quarter-time before the Hay Lions scored 2.5 to 2.0 in the second term.

The Lions were up by 11 points going into the final quarter.

Ultima fought on to win the last, 15-14, but it was Hay which marked a 67-57 victory.

Hay’s attack was led by Angus Gardiner and Jim Houston with two goals each.

Ryan Devereux kicked a match-high three goals for Ultima.

Best for the Lions were Brad Pocock, Jim Houston, Kenneth Jubb, Daniel Stewart, Jensen Hargreaves and Jack Headon.

Mitch Makepeace, Cameron Johnston, Ed Kuchel, Quinn Grey, Matt Taverna and Jamie Nicholas were the Kangaroos’ best.

Macorna withstood a brilliant final quarter by Moulamein to win by 10 points.

Playing at home, Macorna raced to a 53-point lead by half-time after it scored 6.3 and kept the Swans scoreless in term two.

In the third it was Moulamein which started to win a lot more centre breaks and stoppages.

The Swans scored 4.4 to 1.3.

Moulamein unleashed one of its best quarters of the season as it slammed on 6.2 in the final term.

The Tigers’ tally of 2.2 was enough to clinch an 81-71 victory.

Leading goalkickers for Macorna were Malcolm Neiwand, three; Travis Mercadante and Xavier Wishart, two.

The Swans’ attack was led by Ely Miller, Heath Moloney, Reece Smith and James White on two each.

Macorna’s best were Malcolm Neiwand, Sam Whinfield, Lachlan Ritchie, Harley Somerville, Travis Mercadante and Reegan O’Rourke.

Ryan Atkins, Xander Hartland, Ely Miller, Andrew May, Morgan Turvey and Heath Moloney played well for the Swans.

Wandella marked an 88-66 victory on Murrabit’s turf.

Michael Rowe was in superb form as he kicked five goals for the Bombers as Russell Rich chipped in with two.

Murrabit’s attack was led by Patrick Bryan, Sam Copland, Patrick Heenan and Jack Shannahan on two each.

Best for Wandella were Kaine O’Connell, Russell Rich, Archer Lancaster, Michael Rowe, Laing Waddingham and Tim Robinson.

Nathan O’Toole, Ben Gillingham, Tom Copland, Patrick Heenan, Jacob Wade and Sam Copland were best for the Blues.

Golden Rivers senior footy ladder:

Hay 316 per cent, 36 points; Ultima 207, 28; Wandella 89, 20; Macorna 75, 16; Moulamein 52, 4; Murrabit 51, 4.

In Saturday’s round 10 action, Moulamein is at home to play Murrabit from 2.25pm.

Ultima meets Macorna in the clash of the Kangaroos and Tigers.

Wandella hosts Hay at Wandella Recreation Reserve.
