Hawks now perched on second rung

EAGLEHAWK is now perched on the ladder’s second rung after Friday night’s victory in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy 11th round.

The Hawks were on home turf at Canterbury Park for another night match against Marong.

The Hawks made a flying start and led 19-nil a quarter-time.

Marong’s defensive play lifted as it held the Two Blues to a behind in the second term.

A 20-nil lead for the Hawks at half-time was 33 by the last change after the home team scored 2.1 in the third quarter.

Molly Pianta led the attack on two goals as Lucy El Hage, Shelby Faulkner, Emily Galtieri and Melanie Krause were on target in a 40-nil victory.

Best for the Molly Metcalf-coached Eaglehawk were Emily Field, Caitlin Evans, Molly Pianta, Melanie Krause, Emily Galtieri and Lexie Moss.

Best for Marong were Katrina Alford, Crystal Clark, Bianca Bourke, Dani Jeffery, Jessica Jackson and Regeena Torney.

The Panthers who have a four-four record are jointly coached by Jimmy Evenden and Daniel Bourke.

In Friday night’s other match, Winslow Constructors White Hills jumped above North Bendigo on the ladder.

The Demons raced to an 18-nil lead by quarter-time as both teams added a goal in the second.

Goalkicking accuracy was a highlight of the Demons’ play as it scored six straight goals across the opening three quarters.

Georgia Cook and Kadeisha Smith led the White Hills attack on two goals apiece in a 49-7 victory.

Other goalkickers for the red and black were Amelie Haigh, Sasha Pearce, Nadia Peebles and Oakley Turner.

Kira Gibbons was on target for North Bendigo.

Best for the Phil Murley-coached Demons were Sasha Pearce, Kadeisha Smith, Allara Jackson, Sharni Barker, Nadia Peebles and Amelie Haigh.

Heidi Schneider, Roweena Ilsley, Peta T, Ajay Turner, Laura Stilo and Mia Bolitho-Williams were best for a North Bendigo team coached by Jaydene Burzacott and Zak Carter.

Bendigo Thunder, Castlemaine, Golden Square, and Sandhurst had the bye.

It was a thrilling finish to Friday night’s Champions IGA-backed CVFL under-18 girls match between Eaglehawk and Kangaroo Flat.

The Hawks fought on for a 19-18 win on home turf at Canterbury Park.

On Sunday the Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons scored a big win against Strathfieldsaye at the Scott Street ground in White Hills.

The Demons fired up for a 140-9 victory.

White Hills also moved to the fourth rung as Storm dropped to fifth place.

It was a bye for Golden Square, Sandhurst and the unbeaten Woorinen.
