THE Hay Lions outplayed Ultima to win Saturday’s round 13 clash in Golden Rivers senior footy.
Hay had home-ground advantage as first took on second.
The Lions led 27-19 at quarter-time.
The Kangaroos from Ultima bounced back to dominate most of the second term.
As the Roos kicked 4.1 they kept Hay to a tally of 2.2.
Ultima led 44-41 by the long-break.
The Jason Aylett and James Moran-coached Hay lifted the intensity and run in the second half.
The Lions won the crucial third quarter, 26-13, and then scored 3.6 in the last as the Roos were held to just two goals.
By the final siren Hay led 91-69.
Declan Watson led the Lions’ attack on six goals as Dylan Collis and Jack Headon added two each.
Ultima’s attack was led by Corey Grey on five as Dustin Burns and Josh Dwyer chipped in with two each.
Best for Hay were Jacob Watson, Jack Cattanach, Declan Watson, Dylan Collis, Hugh Crighton and James Moran.
Ultima’s best were Lachlan Burns, Josh Dwyer, Jake Foster, Corey Grey, Angus Hinton and Thomas Bull.
The Kangaroos are jointly coached by Mitch Seton-Stewart and Kyle Symons.
At Murrabit the Blues put Wandella out of the top four.
Both teams were locked on 20 points going into the match.
The Jack Shannahan-coached Murrabit raced to a 27-7 lead by the first break and was up 46-26 at half-time.
Murrabit held a five-goal buffer going into the last term after it scored 3.4 and kept the Bombers to just two goals in the third.
The Justin Robinson-coached Wandella won the last, 18-11, but it was the Blues who celebrated a 79-56 victory.
Jack Shannahan kicked three goals in a best-on-ground performance as Ethan Slater also slotted three majors and Adam Thomson chipped in with two.
Wandella’s attack was led by John Cooper, Justin Robinson and Sam Taylor on two.
Best for Murrabit were Jack Shannahan, Austin McKerrow, Ethan Slater, Bailey Pengelly, Ben Derbas and Jacob Wade.
Wandella’s best were Gregor Knight, Justin Robinson, John Cooper, Darcy Ramage, Sam Taylor and Seth Hall.
An 11-goal win by Moulamein at home against Macorna meant the Swans are now perched on the fourth rung.
Up against an opponent which had beaten Murrabit the previous round, Moulamein led 34-8 by quarter-time.
Tne Swans added two goals in the second as the Tigers booted one.
A 34-point lead for Moulamein at the start of the second half became 48 at a quarter to go.
The Swans slotted four goals in the third as the defence held the yellow and black to a score of 1.5.
Moulamein won the last, 38-20, to seal a 113-47 victory.
Brett Kennedy capped a best afield feat with eight goals for the Swans as Adam Saunders kicked six.
Macorna had six goalkickers.
Best for the Brodie Tonkin and Hayden Dalitz-coached Swans were Brett Kennedy, Adam Saunders, Xander Hartland, Trae Atkinson, Ely Miller and Ruan Drotsky.
Macorna’s best were Jackson Fry, Sam Whinfield, Conner Burge, Blake Forster, Luke Gray and John Officer.
Paul Longstaff and Shaun Haffenden are joint coaches of the Tigers.
