Hay thrashes Ultima in grand final rematch

HAY thrashed Ultima in Saturday’s rematch of the ’24 grand finalists in round three of the Golden Rivers senior footy season.

The Lions led 25-10 at quarter-time on Ultima’s ground and then slammed on 7.5 as it kept the Roos to tally of four goals in the second.

The Lions won the crucial third term, 15-5.

Although Ultima fought on to win the last, 16-9, Hay celebrated a 96-55 victory.

Jack Headon led the Lions’ attack on six goals as Declan and Jacob Watson added three and two goals.

Ultima’s leading goalkicker was Josh Dwyer on two.

Best for Hay were Brad Pocock, Jack Cattanach, Jack Headon, Joel Crocker, Jacob Watson and Harry Loughnan.

The Lions are coached by Jason Aylett and James Moran.

Ultima’s best were Zac Cattlin, Josh Dwyer, Matt Taverna, Jake Foster, Corey Grey and Ricky Wild.

The Kangaroos are coached by Mitch Seton-Stewart and Kyle Symons.

Wandella won a closely-fought match on Murrabit’s ground by 15 points.

The Wandella Bombers led 36-29 at half-time and 52-46 at a quarter to go.

A tally of 2.3 as it kept the Blues to a goal in the last was enough for the red and black to seal a 67-52 victory.

Mitch Collins kicked three goals as Kane Timmins added two majors for Wandella.

Murrabit’s attack was led by Adam Thomson with three three and Jordan Lampi on two.

Best for Wandella were Nathan Boysen, Mitch Collins, Archer Lancaster, Kane Timmins, Logan Tuohey and coach Justin Robinson.

Bryden Morison, Matt Moon, Austin McKerrow, Jordan Lampi, Bailey Pengelly and Sam Copland played well for the Jack Shannahan-coached Murrabit.

Moulamein marked a 31-point win on Macorna’s turf.

Scores were locked on 25-all at quarter-time before Moulamein won the second by two goals.

Nathan Buckley, Blake Launer and Morgan Turvey all finished on three goals and Trae Atkinson added two as the Swans surged to a 95-64 victory.

Macorna’s attack was led by Will Meharry on two goals.

Morgan Turvey, Blake Launer, Adam Saunders, Xander Hartland, Will Gibson and Trae Atkinson were best for a Moulamein team coached by Brodie Tonkin and Hayden Dalitz.

Macorna’s best were Connor Burge, Harley Somerville, Jackson Gray, Jackson Fry, Kurt Forder and Corey Walters.

The Tigers are coached by Paul Longstaff and Shaun Haffenden.

In next Saturday’s fourth round its first against third as Hay takes on Wandella in the Lions’ den at Hay Recreation Reserve from 2.25pm.

Fifth takes on fourth as Moulamein hosts Murrabit from 2.25pm.

Ultima will be on home turf again to play Macorna.
