Huntly Hawks soar to win against Blues
THE Harlowe Huntly Hawks broke through for their first victory of the A-grade netball season in Saturday’s 10th round of the Bendigo Bank Heathcote DFNL action.
It was a dramatic finish to the clash between Huntly and Mount Pleasant on the Hawks’ court at Strauch Reserve.
Mount Pleasant led 9-8 at quarter-time before the Kym Bell-coached Hawks struck back to lead 22-21 by the long break.
In the third quarter it was Huntly which increased its buffer by a goal.
The brown and gold led 34-32 at a quarter to play.
Although the Anthea McCleary-coached Mount Pleasant won the final term, 14-13, it was Huntly which clawed its way to a 47-46 victory.
Leitchville Gunbower marked its first match of the season at Leitchville by taking on North Bendigo.
The Caitlyn Hamilton-coached Bombers opened up a 12-goal lead by half-time.
A North Bendigo team jointly coached by Kiralee Kinder and Stacy Kingdon worked hard, but it was the LG line-up which claimed a 60-44 victory.
Heathcote was back home at Pigeon Park in Barrack Reserve to take on Colbinabbin.
The Jen McIntyre-coached Colbinabbin dominated most of the first quarter.
By the first break the green and gold led 20-7.
The Grasshoppers then added 18 goals in the second as it held the Saints to a tally of 10.
In the second half it was Colbinabbin which added 40 goals as a Heathcote team jointly coached by Brooke Bolton and Kelsey Hayes added 18 goals.
At the final whistle Colbinabbin led 78-35.
The ladder-leading Winslow White Hills Demons kept the unbeaten streak rolling.
This round the Lauren Bowles-coached Demons were up against Lockington Bamawm United at Winslow Constructors Oval in White Hills.
The Demons were in red-hot form as they charged to a 69-31 win against the Ash Cullen-coached LBU Cats.
Elmore had the bye.

North Bendigo faces Elmore at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street.
Lockington Bamawm United faces Heathcote at Nichol Trading Oval in Lockington.
Mount Pleasant clashes with White Hills at Toolleen.
Huntly has the bye.
