HDFNL Round 5 Netball Review | LBU Cats celebrate first win of season

BY NATHAN DOLE

LOCKINGTON Bamawm United marked its first win of the Bendigo Bank Heathcote DFNL A-grade netball season in Saturday’s round five match at Leitchville.

The LBU Cats and Leitchville Gunbower Bombers were desperate to break a winless run as they took to the court.

LBU turned a two-goal deficit at half-time into a three-goal buffer going into the last quarter.

The Jessie Hardess-coached Cats broke clear in the final term to complete a 54-41 victory.

Although the final margin was 17 goals, White Hills had to work hard to beat Mount Pleasant on the Demons’ court at Winslow Constructors Oval in Scott Street.

The Lauren Bowles-coached Demons were on the rebound from defeat at Elmore the previous round.

A young Mount Pleasant team kept the heat on for a lot of the contest.

White Hills led 13-6 at quarter-time and 26-14 by the main break.

The Carine Comer-coached Blues fired up to win the third team, 11-8, but the red and black hit back to score 18 goals to 10 in the last for a 52-35 result.

Best for White Hills included Olivia Treloar in attack and Amy Morrissey in defence.

Colbinabbin was too strong for North Bendigo on the Grasshoppers’ court at M.J. Morgan Oval.

The Jen McIntyre-coached Grasshoppers turned a seven goal lead at quarter-time into 18 by the main break after a 17-6 blitz in the second term.

The green and gold did not ease up the pressure as it won the next two quarters, 15-8 and 14-11 to complete a 60-32 victory.

The Shellie Davies-coached North Bendigo held fifth spot going into next Saturday’s home game against Leitchville Gunbower.

It was just a four-goal margin at quarter-time after Heathcote made a great start against Elmore on the Saints’ court at Heathcote’s Barrack Reserve.

The Allira Holmes and Gabe Richards-coached Elmore won the second and third terms, 15-10 and 16-11.

Heathcote worked hard all match, but some short lapses in concentration were capitalised on the Bloods.

At the final siren, Elmore led Heathcote, which is jointly coached by Brooke Bolton and Kelsey Hayes, 62-44.

Huntly had the bye.
