Heat rises as Demons tackle Dragons in White Hills

HEAT will be high as the White Hills Demons take on Sandhurst Dragons in Sunday’s second round in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy season.

All four of Sunday’s matchs will start at 1pm.

The Demons and Dragons will clash at the Scott Street ground in White Hills.

Both teams made a positive start to their ’26 campaign.

White Hills marked a 157-nil win at home against Marong as Acacia Edwards kicked five goals and earnt the High Street X-ray Player of the Round award.

Pressure on the Demons will be much greater against a Sandhurst team which scored a 47-10 victory on Good Friday on Eaglehawk’s ground at C & M Oval in Canterbury Park.

A White Hills squad coached by Sharni Barker and Allara Jackson includes Sasha Pearce, Tracey Anderson, Kadeisha Smith, Kara Kane, Ella Dobell and Ella Henery.

There is plenty of experience in the Sandhurst team which is coached by Liam Ireland and Andrew Saladino.

Sarah Baldwin and Ruby Campbell are co-captains of a line-up that includes Taylah Klemm, Lily and Ruby Campbell, Phoebe Cuttriss and Chelsea Reeves.

Golden Square makes its way to C & M Oval in Eaglehawk’s Canterbury Park to tackle the Two Blues.

Development works at Gourmet Pantry Oval in Golden Square’s Wade Street led to the change.

The Bulldogs and Hawks are both on the rebound from defeat.

On Good Friday the Darren Walsh-coached Golden Square took it right up to Castlemaine at The Railway Hotel Oval in Castlemaine’s Camp Reserve.

Taylah Moore, Gabby Drage and Liz Watkins were best in a 34-47 result against the reigning premier.

Golden Square’s team for this round includes Mackenzie Bickley and Ruby Demeo in attack, Karley Hynes in the ruck, Kate Douglass at centre half-back, and Gemma Roberts as rover.

The versatility of Eaglehawk coach Molly Metcalf, named at centre half-forward, is a huge plus.

The Borough will look for big games from the likes of Lucy El Hage in the centre, Eliza Long, Alannah Leach and Lexie Moss in defence, and ruck-rover Monique Gavriliadis.

Marong will be on home turf at Malone Park to take on league newcomer Wedge-Tailed Eagles.

Both had vastly different starts to the season.

The Brett Carter-coached Marong will be determined to capitalise on scoring chances.

Marong’s best at White Hills were Darcie Whitehead, Caitlin Shaw, Jaime Sawers and Naomi Ridsdale.

Wedge-Tailed Eagles soared to a 25-goal win in the opening round against Bendigo Thunder at Weeroona Oval.

The Phil Hawkes-coached Eagles line-up includes Teagan Ainslie, Natalie Korinfsky, Aisha Mansfield, Ayesha Nicholson, Jane Rolls and Skye Sinclair.

Castlemaine is back on home turf at Camp Reserve to play Bendigo Thunder.

The Jordan Cochrane-coached Castlemaine fought back from deficits of 10 and four points at quarter and half-time to claim a 47-34 victory against Golden Square under the Camp Reserve lights on Good Friday.

In-form players for the Magpies are Tia Davidge, Aisling Tuller, Jemma Finning and Maeve Tupper.

Castlemaine’s squad to face Thunder includes Tiahna Cochrane, Paynton Jolliffe, Abbey Klemm, Shelby Knoll and Taylah Sartori.

It’s another massive test for a young Thunder squad coached by Mick McInnes.

Best for Thunder against the Eagles were Stacey Barbagallo, Rachel Salm, Jasmine Alcon and Sarah Lean.

Thunder’s team bound for Castlemaine includes Sharlene Cole, Samantha Hunter, Hollie Maher and Katrina Murphy.
