Machine holds off Demons in great finish at Calivil
BRIDGEWATER marked a six-goal victory on Calivil United’s court in Saturday’s 14th round of A-grade netball in the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley Football Netball League season.
The Machine again showed its depth and ability to step up in the absence of several gun players.
Bridgewater’s outstanding defence, led by Claudia Collins, held the Demons to 15 goals in the opening three quarters.
Nervous energy was high among the Bridgewater players and fans in the last as Calivil United won the term, 19-7.
At the final siren it wa the Aimie Brown-coached Bridgewater which led 40-34.
For the Mean Machine it was its first victory against a top-five opponent this season.
The Demons slipped from the third rung to fourth after Marong scored a 10-goal win on its court at Malone Park against Newbridge.
Best for Calivil United were Keira Lawry and Stephanie Demeo.
The ladder-leading Maiden Gully YCW won 57-31 against Pyramid Hill at Marist College Oval in Maiden Gully.
It was a rest for Mitiamo in A-grade, but the Superoos did play Inglewood in the lower grades at John Forbes Oval in Mitiamo.
Bears Lagoon Serpentine had the bye.
In next Saturday’s round 15 action, Maiden Gully YCW plays Calivil United at Marist College Oval.
Pyramid Hill and Mitiamo clash on the Bulldogs’ court at Mitchell Park.
Newbridge takes on Bears Lagoon Serpentine at Holloway Air Riverside Oval in Newbridge.
It’s a rest for Marong in A-grade, but the Panthers will play Inglewood in the other grades at Malone Park.
Bridgewater has the bye.
