Panthers regain netball mojo against Bridgewater
AFTER a run of loss, back-to-back byes and then a loss, Marong bounced back to form in Saturday’s 11th round of A-grade netball in the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley Football Netball League.
The Panthers took on Bridgewater in a match vital for the finals aspirations of both clubs.
Marong made the trek across to Bridgewater for the contest.
The Panthers were desperate to claim their seventh win of the season and keep the heat on the third-placed Mitiamo.
Marong led at every quarter break on the way to a 54-34 victory.
The second-placed Calivil United was too strong for Bears Lagoon Serpentine at Calivil.
The Demons’ were in hot form through the mid-court and in attack as they racked up 65 goals.
Just as impressive was Calivil United’s defensive work as the Bears had to work hard for a tally of 26.
Mitiamo marked a 65-44 win against Newbridge on the Superoos’ court at Mitiamo’s John Forbes Oval.
It was an ideal tune-up for the Laura Hicks-coached Mitiamo who play at Marong next Saturday.
It was a rest for Maiden Gully YCW as Inglewood is not fielding an A-grade team, but the Eagles and Blues played the lower grades on the Marist College Bendigo court.
Pyramid Hill had the bye.
Standings in the Loddon Valley FNL A-grade netball competition:
Maiden Gully YCW 158 per cent, 36 points; Calivil United 141, 36; Mitiamo 140, 30; Marong 126, 30; Bridgewater 99, 18; Newbridge 71, 14; Pyramid Hill 59, 8; Bears Lagoon Serpentine 45, 4.
In next Saturday’s 12th round, Marong and Mitiamo clash on the Malone Park court.
Bears Lagoon Serpentine plays Pyramid Hill at Gadsden Finance Serpentine Reserve.
Newbridge and Maiden Gully YCW meet at Holloway Air Riverside Oval in Newbridge.
It’s a rest for Bridgewater as Inglewood is not fielding an A-grade team, but the Blues and Mean Machine will contest the lower grades at Inglewood’s Dissy Machinery Oval.
Calivil United has the bye.
