Newbridge wins thrilling clash with Eagles
NEWBRIDGE fought on for a one-goal victory against Maiden Gully YCW Eagles in Saturday’s sixth round of A-grade netball in the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley FNL season.
The Maroons and Eagles played out one of the games of the season at Walker’s Doughnuts Riverside Oval in Newbridge.
At the final whistle a Newbridge team coached by Selina Holland and Kristy Gandy led 42-41.
Although disappointed not to have taken the points the Adam Boldiston-coached Eagles showed they can be a strong challenger for a top-five berth.
Fourth in the premiership race, Bears-Lagoon Serpentine dominated its match against Calivil United.
The Danielle O’Toole-coached Bears were in top form on their court at Gadsden Finance Serpentine Reserve.
The purple and gold won 63-29 against a Calivil United line-up coached by Haylee Fawcett.
Marong was outpointed by Bridgewater.
Although the Robyn Cunnington-coached Marong had home-court advantage at Malone Park it was the visitors who were in superb touch in all thirds of the court.
The Caz Wood and Olivia Collicoat-coached Bridgewater netted a 61-35 victory.
Inglewood faced a tough task against Mitiamo.
The Abbey Hayes-coached Inglewood was home at Centre State Scaffolding Oval to take on the Superoos.
A Mitiamo team coached by Jen Wilson poured in 81 goals and worked incredibly hard on the defensive aspects of the game to limit the Blues to a tally of 17 goals.
Pyramid Hill had the bye.

Maiden Gully YCW Eagles face Marong at Marist College Oval in Maiden Gully.
It’s second against fifth as Mitiamo hosts Bears-Lagoon Serpentine at John Forbes Oval.
Calivil United is home at Calivil Recreation Reserve to take on Inglewod.
