THE high-flying Castlemaine marked a 26-point victory against Golden Square in the weekend’s eighth round of the Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy season.
It was a rematch of the ’24 grand finalists on Golden Square’s ground in Wade Street on Sunday.
Unbeaten in its quest for a fourth consecutive premiership, Castlemaine led 7-4 at the end of a fiercely contested opening half.
The Magpies then seized control in the third term to score 3.4 as the Bulldogs were scoreless.
Both teams booted two goals in the last quarter as Castlemaine won 42-16.
Magpies’ vice-captain Jemma Finning kicked three goals as Tiahna Cochrane, Eillish Cumming and Maeve Tupper were also on target.
Golden Square’s attack was led by Gabby Drage on two.
Best for the Jordan Cochrane-coached Castlemaine were Jemma Finning, Eillish Cumming, Lily Den Houting, Chelsea Cole, Grace Brady and Ella Cochrane.
Lucy Johansen, Lauren Suleiman, Taylah Moore, Sarah Mannes, Ruby Demeo and Tania Kerrison played well for Golden Square.
Round eight kicked off with Friday night’s match between Eaglehawk and Sandhurst under the Canterbury Park lights in Eaglehawk.
A tally of 23 scoring shots to just two was a sign of Eaglehawk’s dominance in this match.
The Hawks led 15-1 at quarter-time and 37-1 by the main break.
The Molly Metcalf-coached Eaglehawk added 3.8 as it kept the Dragons to a solitary behind in the second half.
Shelby Faulkner kicked two goals as Grace Edlin, Lucy El Hage, Sienna Hobbs, Lily Jenkins, Molly Metcalf and Molly Pianta were on target in the 63-2 victory.
Best for Eaglehawk were Lucy El Hage, Krystal Robinson, Grace Edlin, Taylah Nicholson, Emily Field and Abbey Willcox.
Katie Walker, Ruby Campbell, Chloe Naughton, Chloe Taylor, Sarah Baldwin and Charlotte Scanlon were best for a Sandhurst team coached by Andrew Saladino and Liam Ireland.
Marong won Sunday’s thriller on North Bendigo’s ground at Bendigo Club Oval in Atkins Street.
The Marong Panthers charged to a 19-8 lead by half-time.
North Bendigo struck back to score 2.1 in the third as Marong added a goal.
Defences were in control throughout the final quarter.
As Marong added two behinds, North Bendigo scored just the one.
At the final siren Marong led 27-22.
Lauren Knight led the Panthers attack on three goals as Taylah Patching was also on target.
The in-form Kira Gibbons kicked three goals for North Bendigo.
A list of Marong’s best was not supplied.
The Panthers are coached by Jimmy Evenden and Daniel Bourke.
North Bendigo’s best were Maddie Jelbart, Maddison and Aisha Mansfield, Roweena Ilsley, Kira Gibbons and Mia Bolitho-Williams.
Jaydene Burzacott and Zak Carter have teamed up to coach the red, white and blue.
The Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons dominated Sunday’s home game against Bendigo Thunder in Scott Street.
The Phil Murley-coached White Hills charged to a 32-nil lead by quarter-time and then scored five, two and four goals across the next three quarters.
At the final siren the Demons led 107-nil.
Amelie Haigh led the attack on four goals as Kadeisha Smith kicked three.
The Demons also had Daisy Gee, Nadia Peebles, Sasha Pearce and Oakley Turner boot two goals each.
Best for White Hills were Sasha Pearce, Nadia Peebles, Allara Jackson, Amelie Haigh, Acacia Edwards and Hannah Ripper.
Kate Wright, Maddi Brackenreg, Stacey Barbagallo, Molly Horne, Sharlene Cole and Charlotte Williams were best for the Mick McInnes-coached Thunder.

Two night matches on Friday kick off the league’s ninth round.
It’s the Magpies against the Hawks as Castlemaine and Eaglehawk clash at Castlemaine’s Camp Reserve from 7pm.
Marong and the Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons will play at the Scott Street ground in White Hills from 7pm.
Action returns to Queen Elizabeth Oval with the showdown between Sandhurst and North Bendigo from 1pm.

Round five in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL under-18 girls competition kicked off with Friday night’s match between Eaglehawk and Sandhurst in the Borough’s Canterbury Park.
The Sandhurst Dragons fired up to win 107-9.
Chloe Tweed kicked four goals as Ava Franklin and Mia Maxted kicked two for the maroon and blue.
Eaglehawk’s goalkicker was Tarly West.
Best for Sandhurst were Mia Maxted, Ava Franklin, Kyah Spiteri, Charlotte Liddy, Chloe Tweed and Tully Place.
Tahlia Thorpe, Tia Anderson, Emily Harvey, Jessica Brown, Imogen Wilson and Lana Ring were Eaglehawk’s best.
On Sunday, Strathfieldsaye Storm surged to a 51-17 win against the Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons at Triple M Park in Strathfieldsaye’s Tannery Lane.
Lists of goalkickers for both teams were not supplied.
Storm’s best were Seonah McGregor, Rania Jackson-Leahy, Caitlin Daley, Chella Fitzgerald, Scarlett Ward and Mikayla Davis.
Kassidy Cail, Reagan Wirken, Jayda Alford, Lily Eickert and Belle Mapperson were best for the Demons.
The ladder-leading Woorinen won its home game against Kangaroo Flat by 18 goals.
The Tigers scored 17.16 to nil at Woorinen Recreation Reserve.
Sunny Barry, Charli Conway and Meg Young kicked three goals as Stella Bibby and captain Madison Johnston added two.
Best for Woorinen were Meg Young, Charli Conway, Stella Bibby, Erin and Madison Johnston, and Mayla Conway.
Tahlee Gray, Shelby Kitchingham and Maddyson Hewson were Kangaroo Flat’s best.
