MARONG’S hot run against Pyramid Hill kept rolling in Saturday’s 11th round of the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley FNL senior footy action.
The clash of the league’s top two was played at Pyramid Hill’s Mitchell Park.
Unbeaten in its pursuit of a fourth consecutive premiership, Marong swept aside the Bulldogs challenge.
A brilliant start by Marong meant it led 24-7 at quarter-time.
Goalkicking accuracy was a highlight of the Panthers play as all seven shots on goal in the first half were on target.
Marong led 42-20 by the long break.
As the Panthers scored 2.7 in the third they kept Pyramid Hill to nil.
Being scoreless in a quarter has not happened too often for Pyramid Hill in recent seasons.
As co-coach Kain Robins kicked three goals the Panthers also had Michael Bradbury and Shannon Geary boot two majors in a 79-32 victory.
Pyramid Hill’s attack was led by Ben Knight on three.
Best for Marong were mid/forward Ryley Taylor, key defender Brodie Hartland, ruckman Michael Bradbury, Matt Willox, Jimmy Gadsden and Corey Gregg.
Pyramid Hill’s best were Ben Knight, ruckman Kai Daniels, Dylan Morison, Levi Moss, Brad Ladson and Gavin James.
A Panthers line-up which has Paul Thomson as co-coach in a non-playing role will be back on home turf at Jackal Oval in Malone Park to tackle Calivil United next round.
Beaten by 42 and 47 points in this season’s showdowns with Marong there’s plenty of work for the Nathan Fitzpatrick-coached Bulldogs to do.
Pyramid Hill makes its way to Mitiamo’s John Forbes Oval next Saturday to tackle the Superoos.
Just a goal separated Calivil United and Mitiamo in Saturday’s match on Calivil’s turf.
The Mitiamo Superoos bound their way to a 34-8 lead by quarter-time and were up 49-23 at the long break.
Calivil United worked hard to be within two goals by three quarter-time.
Although the Demons won the final term, 20-14, it was Mitiamo which clung on for a 71-65 victory.
After a winless run in ’24, Mitiamo has now won both matches against Calivil United this season.
Andrew Cussen was in hot form as he kicked six goals against the Demons on Saturday as Kobe Galvin added two.
Calivil United’s leading goalkicker was Henry McCarthy on four as former coach Anthony Dennis kicked three.
Best for Mitiamo were Anthony Huismann, Zak Myers, Zach Morrison, Andrew Cussen, coach Luke Lougoon and Jack Daglish.
Henry McCarthy, Riley Walsh, Jayden Leach, Kade Blow, Rhys Lourie and Anthony Dennis were best for the Sam Maher-coached Demons.
Bears-Lagoon Serpentine marked a 31-point win on Inglewood’s ground at Centre State Scaffolding Oval.
With gun forward Josh Mellington sidelined because of injury it was Farran Priest who ruled the Bears attack on seven goals in a 71-40 victory.
The Jake Wilkinson-coached Bears won the opening two quarters by margins of 17 and 24 points.
Inglewood hit back to outscore BLS in the second half, 19-9.
Best for the Bears were defender Tyler Miles, Josh Taig, Farran Priest, Jaxon Addlem and Nathan Twigg.
Luke Matheson, Josh Whittle, Bregon Cotchett, Liam Marciano, Lachlan Ford and Harry Veitch were best for the Fergus Payne-coached Blues.
A tally of 38 scoring shots as the opposition had 11 was a sign of Bridgewater’s dominance at home against Maiden Gully YCW Eagles.
Bridgewater scored 4.10 in the opening term and was far more accurate in the second as it added 6.2.
By half-time the Mean Machine led 72-13.
With Luke Ellings starring in midfield and Darcy Ferguson and Nic Naughton winning plenty of contests Bridgewater kicked on for a 128-51 victory.
Bridgewater coach Lachie Sharp booted seven goals as Harry Conway, Nic Naughton and Alex Powell added two each.
The Eagles’ attack was led by Todd Delahey on three as Luke Deslandes added two majors.
Best for the Mean Machine included Tyler Estrada, Josh Martyn who is dominating from defence, and Alex Powell.
The Eagles’ best were Josh Worsley, Daniel Russell, Tyson Jackson, Leo Bosley, Mitchell Lines and Mitch Hill.
The Maiden Gully YCW Eagles are jointly coached by Shawn Filo and Angus Monfries.
Newbridge had the bye.
