Moulamein eyes hat-trick against Ultima

BEAT Ultima for a third time in a row on Saturday and Moulamein will progress to the Golden Rivers senior footy grand final.

The Kangaroos and Swans will contest the preliminary final in Wandella from 2.40pm.

Although it finished three wins clear of Moulamein in the 16-round home-and-away series, two of Ultima’s defeats in an 11-4 run were against the Swans.

In round two, Ultima won on Moulamein’s turf by 11 points.

The Swans marked a 70-62 win on the Kangaroos’ ground in round seven and followed up with a 128-83 victory against the reigning premier in the 11th round.

Ultima kicked off its finals campaign against Hay in the second semi-final last Saturday.

The Hay Lions roared to an 88-63 victory in their den.

On Sunday the Swans outplayed the Blues from Murrabit by 33 points in the first semi-final.

Among the key match-ups in the preliminary final it will be in the centre where Moulamein co-coach Brodie Tonkin takes on Jake Foster.

The Swans’ other co-coach, Hayden Dalitz was named in a forward pocket.

A Moulamein defence led by Mark Drotsky, Ely Miller, Jayden Haeusler and Will Gibson takes on Corey Grey, Josh Dwyer, Matt Taverna and Thomas Isma.

Swans’ on-ballers Jye Purtill, Ricky Wild and Cameron Johnson will team up against Heath Moloney, Blake Launer and Trae Atkinson.

The finals experience of an Ultima team coached by Mitch Seton-Stewart and Kyle Symons could be a telling factor.

The reserves preliminary final will feature Murrabit and Hay from 12.35pm.

It’s two-one in favour of the Blues in this season’s clashes with Hay.

Murrabit marked a 96-22 victory at home against the Lions in round two.

In round seven the Blues won 44-27 in the Hay den.

Latest meeting was round 11 where Hay fought on for a 43-39 victory in Murrabit.

The Blues are on the rebound from a 76-48 loss to Ultima in the second semi-final.

Hay won a closely-fought first semi against Wandella by five points.

It will be Wandella against Ultima in the under-18s preliminary final from 10.45am.

Most recent meeting between the Bombers and Kangaroos was in round 12 where Ultima won 36-29 on its ground.

Wandella beat the Roos by 40 points in round six and kicked off the season with an emphatic 110-15 victory on Ultima’s turf.

The Bombers will be desperate to bounce back from a 152-21 loss to Macorna in the second semi-final.

Ultima won its first semi against Hay by 26 points.

Preliminary final day will start with the under-15s match between Hay and Macorna from 9.35am.

The Hay Lions have sights on a fourth consecutive victory against the Macorna Tigers.

Margins in this season’s showdowns have been 67, 61 and 29 points.

The Lions are on the rebound from a 28-point loss to Murrabit in the second semi-final.

Macorna stayed in the flag race as it marked a 36-18 victory in the first semi against Wandella.
