MOULAMEIN marked its biggest win in a long time as it upset reigning premier Ultima in Saturday’s seventh round in the Golden Rivers senior footy action.
After dominating most of the first half Moulamein led 36-11 at the long break.
Ultima hit back to score three goals in the third, but the Swans’ tally of 1.1 meant it led by 14 points going into the last term.
A high-scoring last quarter went Ultima’s way, 33-27, but it was Moulamein which celebrated a 70-62 victory.
Blake Launer led the Swans’ attack on three goals as Adam Saunders kicked two.
Ultima’s leading goalkickers were Corey Grey, Adam Symons and Matt Taverna on two.
Best for Moulamein were Heath Moloney, Blake Launer, Will Doquile, Mark Drotsky, Will Gibson and Ethan Fitzpatrick.
It was the second win of the season for the Brodie Tonkin and Hayden Dalitz-coached Moulamein.
Ultima’s best were Lachlan Bull, Thomas Bull, co-coach Mitch Seton-Stewart, Corey Grey, Lincoln Frost and Zac Cattlin.
The Kangaroos also have Kyle Symons as co-coach.
Defeat means the second-placed Ultima is now just a win in front of Wandella.
The Kangaroos are more than 70 per cent clear of the Bombers.
Wandella marked the trek to Macorna by scoring a 22-point win in the Tigers’ den.
After an evenly-fought first term, Wandella led 14-13.
Macorna then fired up to score 4.1 as the Bombers were held to a tally of 1.2 in the second term.
The Bombers turned a 16-point deficit at the start of the second half into a five-point lead at a quarter to play after it won the vital third term, 34-13.
Led by the play of Darcy Ramage, Archer Lancaster and Laing Waddingham, Wandella kicked on to win 79-57.
Wandella coach Justin Robinson kicked four goals as Mitch Collins chipped in with three.
Other multiple goalkickers for the red and black were Archer Lancaster and Kaine O’Connell on two.
Macorna’s attack was led by Connor Burge, Luke Gray and Sam Whinfield on two.
The Bombers’ best included Adam Ward, John Cooper and Connor Jamieson.
A list of Macorna’s best was not supplied.
The Tigers are jointly coached by Paul Longstaff and Shaun Haffenden.
Hay marked a 34-point win at home against Murrabit.
The Lions charged to a 69-32 lead by half-time.
Murrabit dominated the third quarter as it scored 4.7 and the Lions were held to a score of 1.4.
The Lions upped their intensity and were rewarded with six goals in the last to complete a 116-82 win.
Declan Watson led Hay’s attack on five goals as Dylan Collis booted four.
The Lions had Jack Headon and Dan Jamieson chip in with three each as Dean Aylett added two majors.
Adam Thomson capped a great match for Murrabit with five goals.
The Blues had Ryan Harvey and James Stewart boot two goals.
Best for Hay were Dylan Collis, Jack Cattanach, Jacob Watson, Joel Crocker, Declan Watson and Dean Aylett.
The Lions are jointly coached by Jason Aylett and James Moran.
Best for the Blues were Bailey Pengelly, Ryan Harvey, coach Jack Shannahan, Adam Thomson, James Stewart and Matt Moon.

The Kangaroos and Lions will play at Ultima from 2.25pm.
Moulamein will be back on home turf against Macorna.
Wandella takes on Murrabit in the Bombers’ hangar at Wandella Football Netball Club.
