Ladder leaders win thrilling match at Nullawil

THE ladder-leading Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers held on to score a four-point win at Nullawil in Saturday’s 14th round of the Goldacres North Central senior footy action.

After charging to a 34-nil lead by quarter-time, Sea Lake Nandaly was under pressure as Nullawil hit back to win the second term, 31-2.

In the third it was the Tigers who again broke clear as they scored 2.8 as the Maroons added 1.1.

The Daryl Wilson-coached Nullawil lifted its run to score 3.3 in the last, but SLN’s score of 1.1 was enough to clinch a 63-59 victory.

The Tigers had eight goalkickers as former Collingwood and Western Bulldogs forward Travis Cloke booted a match-high two goals for Nullawil.

Best for the Bryce Delmenico and Billy McInnes-coached Tigers were Kane and Wade Donnan, Brodie Adcock, Ryan O’Sullivan, Thomas Cox and Jack Poulton.

Nullawil’s best were Lucas Caccaviello, Brent Sheahan, Matthew Wade, Adam Thomson, Dean Putt and Kyle Doran.

The result meant Nullawil stays two points behind fourth-placed Wedderburn in the race to qualify for finals.

Boort also kept the heat on as it marked a 60-53 win against Wycheproof-Narraport at Wycheproof.

The Dale Cameron-coached Boort turned a three-point deficit at half-time into a five-point lead at a quarter to play.

Two goals as the Demons added 1.4 in the last meant Boort held on for a crucial victory.

James Byrne and Ethan Coleman led Boort’s attack on two goals each.

Cody Green kicked two majors for the Demons.

Boort’s best were Jhye Baddeley-Kelly, Will Perryman, Jarrod Fitzpatrick, Ethan Coleman, Jayden Dick and James Byrne.

Koby Hommelhoff, Maysen Murgov, Josh Walsh, Matthew Trzeciak, Spencer Allan and Robert Fawcett were best for the Wayne Mitrovic-coached Demons.

Donald surged clear of St Arnaud in the final term to complete a 67-29 victory on the Royals’ turf at Donald Recreation Reserve.

It was a superb effort by the Scott Driscoll-coached Saints who had scored 4.5 across the opening three terms as Donald reached 5.5.

Donald them dominated the last quarter as it slammed on 5.2 and kept St Arnaud scoreless.

The Royals’ attack was led by Blake Grant and Todd Stevenson on two goals.

Mitch Egan booted two goals for the Saints.

Best for the Josh Potter-coached Donald were Andrew Browne, Jesse Wallin, Todd Stevenson, Jamie Papalia, Blake Grant and Kalon Green.

St Arnaud’s best were Jake and Sam Male, Mitch Egan, Ryan Lempa, Harley Durward and Bailey Nicholas.

At Birchip’s George Cartwright Oval it was Birchip-Watchem which beat Charlton by 53 points.

The Trevor Ryan-coached Bulls charged to a 17-nil lead by quarter-time and then added 2.5 as the Navies replied with a goal in the second.

Birchip-Watchem’s ferocity at the contest did not let up as it scored 4.5 and held Charlton to a behind in the third.

Best quarter for Charlton was the last as it added 1.4 and held the Bulls to a tally of 1.1.

Ben Edwards kicked five goals in a 70-17 victory.

Goalkickers for Charlton were Ben Lanyon and Harrison Taylor.

Birchip-Watchem’s best were Ty Colbert, Meyrick Buchanan, Hamish Hosking, Darcy Reid, Ben Edwards and Sam Simmons.

Sam Woods, coach Mitch Collins, Kade Blow, Rhyen Woods, Bailey Dixon and Ben Lanyon were Charlton’s best.

Wedderburn had the bye.

In next Saturday’s round 15 action, Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers take on Donald at Sea Lake as first meets third.

Charlton faces Nullawil at Charlton Park.

Boort and Birchip-Watchem clash in the Magpies’ nest at Boort Park.

Wedderburn and Wycheproof-Narraport will play in the Redbacks’ web at Donaldson Park.
