Donald fights on to beat Tigers by point

DONALD marked its best win of the Goldacres North Central season as it fought on for a one-point win at Sea Lake in Saturday’s 15th round of senior footy action.

The Josh Potter-coached Donald led 15-4 at quarter-time and 39-20 by the main break on Sea Lake Nandaly’s turf at Sea Lake.

As the Royals capitalised on attacks to score 6.3 in the first half, Sea Lake Nandaly rued missed chances as it went to the break on a score of 2.8.

A closely-fought third term went the way of the Tigers, 20-19.

Sea Lake Nandaly Tiger did plenty of attacking in a dramatic final quarter.

As the yellow and black scored 3.5, Donald was kept scoreless.

The Royals led 58-57 when the siren sounded.

Noah Berry led Donald’s attack on three goals as Harry Forrest, Hayden Geddes, Blake Grant, Ryan Bath, Jesse Wallin and Ross Young added one each.

Tyson McKenzie booted three majors for the Tigers as Max Cahoon, Lachy McClelland, Jack Poulton and Will Simpson were also on target.

Best for Donald were Ryley Barrack, Andrew Browne, Logan and Hayden Geddes, Dyson Bell-Warren and Tom Heuston.

Jack Poulton, Wade Donnan, Tyson McKenzie, Thomas Cox, Luke Martin and Kane Donnan played well for the Bryce Delmenico and Billy McInnes-coached Tigers.

After Sea Lake Nandaly was beaten, Birchip-Watchem moved to the top of the ladder following a 38-point victory at Boort Park.

The Trevor Ryan-coached Bulls led 44-21 at half-time.

Birchip-Watchem won the next two quarters, 16-10 and 21-12 to record an 81-43 win.

Patrick Veszpremi led the Bulls’ attack on four goals as Ben Edwards and Charlie Frank booted two each.

Goalkickers for Boort were Jhye Baddeley-Kelly, Ethan Coleman, Jarrod Fitzpatrick, Chris Hatcher, Kieren Jaksic and Natnael McLaren.

Best for the Bulls were Nicholas Rippon, Patrick Veszpremi, Hamish Hosking, Daniel Bell, Darcy Reid and Jack Lee.

James Wilson, Jarrod Fitzpatrick, Matt Austin, James Keeble, Jhye Baddeley-Kelly and Keiren Wilson played well for the Dale Cameron-coached Magpies.

A strong first quarter put Wedderburn in control of its clash with Wycheproof-Narraport at Wedderburn’s Donaldson Park.

The Tom Metherell-coached Redbacks led 23-2 at quarter-time.

Wycheproof-Narraport struck back to win the second, 26-19.

Inspired by the play of Danny Benaim, Adam Postle and Oscar Holt it was the Redbacks who dominated quarter three.

As Wedderburn scored 3.3 the Demons were held to a point.

The Wayne Mitrovic-coached Wycheproof-Narraport fought on to win the last term, 20-13, but it was Wedderburn which claimed a 76-49 and the four premiership points.

Oscar Holt capped a great match with six goals as Tom Campbell booted three.

The Demons’ attack was led by Nicholas Grabowski and Koby Hommelhoff on two.

Best for Wedderburn included Mitch and Jackson McEwen, and Hamish Lockhart.

Koby Hommelhoff, Boe Bish, Josh Grabowski, Robert Fawcett, Jack Marlais and Rowan Jones played well for the red and blue.

There were 10 goalkickers for Nullawil in a 143-point win at Charlton.

The Darryl Wilson-coached Nullawil charged to a 58-9 lead by quarter-time on the Navies’ ground.

Goal tallies of four, eight and five across the next three quarters capped a 168-25 win by a Nullawil line-up fighting to climb into the top four.

Adam Thomson led Nullawil’s attack on six goals as Zac Caccaviello, Andrew Casey and Andrew Oberdorfer added three.

Other multiple goalkickers for the Maroons were Mitch Farmer, Rylee Smith, Matt Wade and Daniel Watts on two.

Ben Lanyon, Harrison Taylor and Rhyen Woods were on target for Charlton.

Best for Nullawil were Adam Thomson, Ben Brennan, Andrew Casey, Sol Kelly, Matt Wade, Andrew Oberdorfer.

Kade Blow, Patrick Soulsby, coach Mitch Collins, Ben Lanyon, Sam and Rhyen Woods were best for the Navies.

St Arnaud had the bye.
