NEWBRIDGE fought to beat Bears-Lagoon Serpentine by a goal in Saturday’s 17th round of A-grade netball in the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley FNL season.
The Bears and Maroons played out a great match at Gadsden Finance Serpentine Reserve.
A BLS line-up jointly coached by Danielle O’Toole and Lara Clements took it right up to Newbridge.
At the final siren it was the Maroons who led 40-39.
Victory meant the Selina Holland and Kristy Gandy-coached Newbridge moved to third rung on the ladder as Bridgewater had the bye.
Inglewood went incredibly close to ending its season ‘duck’ when it played Maiden Gully YCW Eagles at Maiden Gully’s Marist College Oval.
The Leisa Barry-coached Eagles clung for a 44-40 victory.
Although bitterly disappointed not to have the four points there was a lot to like about the play of the Caitlyn Cartwright-coached Blues in their final game of the season.
Top teams Mitiamo and Pyramid Hill netted big wins.
The Abbey Battersby and Jess Kaur-coached Mitiamo scored a 76-47 win on Marong’s court at Jackal Oval in Malone Park.
It was a big day for both clubs at the annual Annette Grant Memorial Round.
The Panthers and Superoos have joined forces each season to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer awareness and treatment.
Mitiamo centre Amelia Ludeman earnt the Annette Grant Memorial best-on-court medal.
The Superoos are unbeaten in their pursuit of back-to-back premierships.
Marong is fifth going into next Saturday’s final round of the home-and-away series.
The Bridget Willox-coached Panthers will be keen to hit back from defeat when they play at Deepcore Drilling Riverside Oval in Newbridge.
Calivil United faced a huge task against the in-form Pyramid Hill.
Although the Cindy Portwine-coached Demons had home-court advantage in Calivil it was Pyramid Hill which charged to a 77-32 victory.
Second in the premiership race, Pyramid Hill is jointly coached by Chelsea Emmerson, Simone Edgley and Laura Herbert.
Bridgewater had the bye.

Pyramid Hill will return to Mitchell Park to play Maiden Gully YCW Eagles.
Calivil United faces Bears-Lagoon Serpentine at Calivil Recreation Reserve.
