Saints win thriller against Koondrook Barham

THE Tooleybuc Manangatang Saints fought on for a one-goal win against Koondrook Barham in Saturday’s round 17 clash in Radio 3SH-backed Central Murray senior footy.

Mananatang hosted one of its biggest match in years as the Saints strived to hold fifth place against the sixth-placed River Raiders.

Defences were in control for a lot of the match.

The Saints led 16-14 at quarter-time.

In the second it was the Marcus Demaria-coached Koondrook Barham which added 2.2 and kept the Saints to a tally of  three behinds.

The Saints faced a nine-point deficit at half-time.

Four straight goals as it kept the visitors to a score of 1.3 meant the Brad Morris-coached Saints led 43-37 going into the final.

Both line-ups added 2.2 in the last as Tooleybuc Manangatang achieved a hard-fought 57-51 victory.

Connor Nutting and Josh Domaille led the Saints’ attack on three and two goals.

It was three and two goals by Warren Lolicato and Kye Atwell for Koondrook Barham.

Best for the Saints were Josh Domaille, Elliot Chalmers, Rydar Morris, Connor Mcdonald, Jesse Wilson and Blake Grant.

Koondrook Barham’s best were Lachlan Bates, Jack Shannon, Ryan Bassett, Jacob Barrington, James Martin and Jack Thrum.

At Lake Boga the Magpies were kept to a goal in an 8-151 loss to the ladder-leading Woorinen.

It was a ruthless performance by the Tim Free-coached Tigers.

Woorinen charged to a 46-1 lead by quarter-time and was up 74-8 by the long break.

Lake Boga’s only goal was kicked by Rex Hickman in the second term.

The Tigers added four goals in the third and six in the last.

A tally of 46 scoring shots was a sign of Woorinen’s dominance.

Will Collicoat led the way on six goals as Jye Barry and Matt Perry added four each.

The Tigers had Jordy McInnes, Josh Stone and Henry Thompson add two goals.

Best for Woorinen were Jye Barry, Will Collicoat, Henry Thompson, Matt Perry, Zack Ryan and Matt Gardner.

Was a tough afternoon for the Dean Helmers-coached Lake Boga in which Xavier Sherlock, Marty Parsons, Darby Hayes, Will Gardner, Koben Ryan and Shannon O’Reilly were best.

Cohuna Kangas dominated on Kerang’s turf at Riverside Park.

A gun on-baller for much of his career with Cohuna and Golden Square, Tom Toma kicked 10 goals in a best-on-ground performance.

The Jack Geary-coached Kangas bounced away to a 58-1 lead by quarter-time and did not let.

Cohuna scored four goals in the second, seven in the third and another four in the last.

At the final siren the Kangas were up 164-16.

Other multiple goalkickers for Cohuna were Jacob Mitchell on four, Corbin Anderson with three, and Jackson Williams with two.

Kerang’s goals were kicked by Zak Bozanich and Scott Pay.

Best for the Kangas were Tom Toma, Sam McGlone, Jarrod Findlay, Will Lee, Chris Anderson and Ricky Monti.

Jonah and Bohden McKnight, Thomas Hetherington, Rylee Gitsham, Archer Dibsdale and Scott Pay played well for the Paul Grayling-coached Blues.

After leading 26-15 at quarter-time, Nyah Nyah West United dominated its home game against Tyntynder.

The Demons won the second term, 29-3.

As NNWU added nine goals in the second half it kept Tyntynder scoreless to run out 121-18 victors.

Charlie Boulton led the attack on five goals as co-coach Corey Daniels added three.

The Demons had Brayden Bigham and Ethan Saville slot two majors.

Tyntynder’s goalkickers were Mick Dedini and Elia Ware.

Best for the Demons were Nic O’Neill, Ethan Saville, Nash Richman, Charlie Boulton, Brady Davidson and Joel Walsh.

NNWU has Jason Murphy as co-coach.

Tyntynder’s best were Harry Simpson, Cayden Crowe, co-coach Charlie Ford, Kyle Doran, Jack Kirby and Bailey Reeves.

The Bulldogs also have Darcy Bibby and Justin Ellis as co-coaches.

Mallee Eagles were back in their nest at Lalbert to play Balranald.

The Eagles soared to a 36-8 lead by quarter-time and were up 73-15 by the long break.

Mallee slammed on eight goals in the third and another seven in the last quarter to complete a 175-21 victory.

Gun forwards Darcy Hourigan and Andrew Mead-Harding led the attack on six goals each.

Brady Fordham and Eagles co-coach Brent Macleod added three each as Shaun Harrison kicked two.

Balranald’s attack was led by Sebastian Papa on two as Cody Henness was also on target.

Best for Mallee Eagles were Brady Fordham, Shaun Harrison, Darcy Hourigan, co-coach Harry Allen, Brent Macleod and Charlie Kingwill.

The Kangaroos’ best were Cody Henness, co-coach Jack Salau, Ian Fuller, Tom Salau, Sebastian Papa and Cruz Jolliffe.

Balranald also has Ben Fuller and Ben Mahon as co-coaches.

Swan Hill had the bye.

The 18th and final round in the home-and-away series will be played this Saturday from 2.30pm.

Woorinen will be on its turf to play Tooleybuc Manangatang.

Koondrook Barham faces Swan Hill at Barham Recreation Reserve.

Tyntynder will tackle Mallee Eagles at Swan Hill’s Alan Garden Reserve.

Balranald and Kerang clash at Balranald’s Greenham Park.

Cohuna Kangas will be on home turf against Lake Boga.

Nyah Nyah West United has the bye.
