Sawers marks 300th match milestone

MARONG’S Jaime Sawers will mark her 300th footy match when Marong takes on North Bendigo in Sunday’s round 16 clash in Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy.

It’s been an incredible run by Sawers to the magical milestone which has involved playing stints with Kangaroo Flat, North Bendigo, Bendigo Thunder, and now Marong.

The Panthers have home-ground advantage at Jackal Oval in Malone Park for Sunday’s game which starts at 1pm.

A Marong team jointly coached by Jimmy Evenden and Daniel Bourke will be chasing its fifth win of the season.

Marong is on the rebound from a 17-point loss at White Hills in Pride Round last Sunday as the Bulldogs went down to Sandhurst by 65 points.

It was a closely-fought match between Marong and North Bendigo at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street in round eight.

The Panthers clawed their way to a 27-22 victory.

Best in Marong’s latest match were Kayla Grant, Alicia Tujrner, Crystal Clark and Nikeah Anderson.

The Panthers’ squad includes Katrina Alford, captain Bianca Bourke, Taylah Patching and Caitlin Shaw.

In-form players for North Bendigo include Nicole Brannan, Quetta Holloway-Jinks, Roweena Ilsley and Sarah Thompson.

A Bulldogs’ squad coached by Jaydene Burzacott and Zak Carter includes captain Aisha Mansfield, Tanika Thomson, Ajay Turner and Maddie Jelbart.

It’s sixth against fourth as the Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons will be in their Scott Street den against Sandhurst.

Both teams won last round.

Best for the Phil Murley-coached White Hills in a 17-point victory against Marong were Nadia Peebles, Sasha and Maiya Pearce, and Sharni Barker.

The Demons will be fired up as the round seven match with Sandhurst at Queen Elizabeth Oval ended in a 101-point victory for the maroon and blue.

Best for Sandhurst in the win on North Bendigo’s turf were Lily Campbell, Lara Bish, Arkie Donnelly and Letisha Stewart.

A Dragons’ squad coached by Andrew Saladino and Liam Ireland includes Scout Carmody, Ruby Campbell, Paynton Jolliffe and Chloe Swatton.

Castlemaine will be back on home turf at Camp Reserve to play Bendigo Thunder from 1pm.

It’s a formidable Castlemaine line-up which won last Friday night’s match at Eaglehawk to kick off Pride Round by four goals.

Players to watch for the Jordan Cochrane-coached Castlemaine include Eloise Gretgrix, Maeve Tupper, Paige Gordon, Jemma Finning and Eillish Cumming.

A tough run for the Bendigo Thunder rolls on following last Sunday’s match at Golden Square.

The Mick McInnes-coached Thunder squad includes Maddi Brackenreg, Estella Murphy, Sofie Sawka, Rachel Salm and Ella Tregale.
