BJFL Round 4

ST THERESE’S Sharks showed plenty of attacking flair across the fourth and final week of grading in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Junior Football League’s under-12 mixed competition.

Most famous of all St Therese’s past players, and there are hundreds, is Geelong captain and gun onballer Joel Selwood.

A triple premiership player with the Cats and holder of the AFL’s record as most games as captain, Joel Selwood was club champion for St Therese’s under-12B in 1998, and under-12A best and fairest in ’99 and 2000.

In the weekend’s action for under-12 Mixed grading, the Sharks’ ‘A’ team scored a 133-7 win against Maiden Gully YCW Eagles (1) at Bendigo’s Ewing Park.

Charlie Macumber was in superb form as he kicked 11 goals for St Therese’s, and Jamison Westley added three.

Best for the Sharks were Jaxon Kelly, Corben Bell, Jake Rosa, Zac Rooke and Charlie Macumber.

The St Therese’s D line-up won a great match with Kangaroo Flat by two goals.

The Sharks led 23-6 at quarter-time and 30-6 by half-time.

Kangaroo Flat lifted to win the third term, 12-7, and also the last, 19-12, but it was St Therese’s which won the game, 49-37.

Xavier Mulqueen kicked four goals as Quinn Casey, Beau Rosa, Cruz Wilson, John McCrann, Declan Winfield and Archie McCullough were best for the Sharks.

The Sharks’ ‘B’ team held a 12-8 lead at half-time of the match with Kangaroo Flat after Kahl McInerney was on target.

The Roos bounded clear to score 5.3 to two points in the second half for a 41-14 victory.

Knox Westley, Louis Travaglia, Liam Hubble, Kahl McInerney, Layla Burn and Xavier Potter were best for St Therese’s.

It was the fourth round in the premiership season for the under-14, under-16 and under-18 girls’ competitions.

Leaders on the under-14 Girls ladder, White Hills and Strathfieldsaye met.

The Demons won 43-17.

In other matches, Golden Square beat Sandhurst by 28 points, and South Bendigo scored a 52-point victory against Eaglehawk.

A closely-fought under-16 Girls match between Kyneton and Castlemaine ended in a 29-21 win for the Tigers.

Sandhurst and Kangaroo Flat were too strong for Strathfieldsaye and White Hills respectively.

The unbeaten run by Woorinen Tigers in the under-18 Girls competition was ended as Strathfieldsaye stormed to a 69-31 win against the yellow and black.

Golden Square marked a 93-28 win against Eaglehawk, as White Hills had the bye.
