Smaller clubs achieve big results

THERE were great results achieved by smaller clubs across week six in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Junior Football League season.

Rochester marked a hat-trick of wins as Leitchville Gunbower, Lockington Bamawm United, Heathcote, North Bendigo, Quarry Hill, Mount Pleasant were represented in various age groups.

A brilliant opening quarter set up Rochester’s win against South Bendigo in the under-14 reserves, division one clash at Rochester’s Windridge Oval.

The Rochester Tigers charged to a 34-7 lead by the first break.

At half-time the yellow and black led 36-21.

Rochester held a 22-point lead going into the final quarter in which both teams kicked a goal.

At the final siren the Tigers led the Bloods, 63-40.

Zach Froon and Harrison Wilkins kicked two goals for the Tigers as Hugh Acocks, Wil Hayler, George Mcfadzean, Archer and Harry Rasmussen were also on target.

Rochester’s best were Archer and Harry Rasmussen, Hugh Acocks and Makore Dickinson.

The Tigers were also on home turf at Windridge Oval for the under-15 girls, reserves match against Marong.

It was a 50-6 win for Rochester in which Alida Beer booted four goals and Ashlea Duckworth, Ruby Ettershank and Evie Riordan added one each.

Best for the Tigers were Ella Treacy, Evie Riordan, Alida Beer and Macey Ryan.

Rochester was also represented on Bendigo’s Ewing Park as the Tigers took on Sandhurst in the under-16 reserves, division one competition.

The Tigers charged to a 39-13 lead by quarter-time and then scored 3.6 as the Dragons were held to a tally of four behinds in the second.

Rochester captain Cale James dominated with five goals as Kaelan Connor, Aaron Harbour, Darcey Pump and Charles Watson kicked two each in a 118-23 victory.

Other goalkickers for the yellow and black were Oscar Danswan, Mitch Munro and Amon Riordan.

North Bendigo scored a five-goal win against Heathcote in the under-12B match at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street.

The Bulldogs led 32-21 at half-time and 39-22 at a quarter to play.

North Bendigo added 3.1 in the last as the Saints scored a goal.

Chaise Cook kicked three goals and Harry LeFevre added two in a 58-28 win by the Bulldogs.

The Saints’ attack was led by Noah Burton and Hunter Harvey on two each.

Best for North Bendigo were Levi Bright, Oliver Ring, Jye Benbow and Chaise Cook.

Heathcote’s best were Harry Dellar, Lincoln Polson, Noah Burton and Hunter Harvey.

In the under-14 reserves, division two competition it was North Bendigo against White Hills at the White Hills ground.

The Demons led 37-30 at half-time and kicked away for a 70-38 victory.

Goalkickers for North Bendigo were Ryder Naughton-Stratford on two, and Rhiley Carter, Jaxon and Liam Kerr, and Aiden West.

Best for the Bulldogs were Jaxon Kerr, Sam Tavage Dee, Aiden West and Isaac Widdicombe.

North Bendigo was on home turf at Bendigo Club Oval in Atkins Street to face Strathfieldsaye in the under-15 Girls, reserves match.

It was Storm which surged to a 26-4 victory.

Best for North Bendigo were Haylee Hoggan, Rylee Botheras and Lilly Chmil.

Quarry Hill played Castlemaine in the under-12B match at Ken Wust Oval in Quarry Hill.

The Quarry Hill Demons led 14-7 at quarter-time, but the Magpies then took control to win the next three terms, 45-15.

At the final siren Castlemaine led 52-29.

Goalkickers for Quarry Hill were Phillip Antoniadis, Brady Brown, Archer Griffin and Murphy Wallace.

The Demons’ best were Nina Garden, Ed Buckeridge, Harvey McMillan and Bodi Borchard.

Mount Pleasant marked a 75-point win against Eaglehawk in the under-14 reserves, division two match on the Blues’ ground in Toolleen.

Harry Dooly and Charlie Torr kicked two goals in the 97-22 victory.

Mounts also had Kirby Black, Brock Checkley, Max Dooly, Kolby Finch, Zannon Kelly, Levi Magee, Lachlan Read, Jesse Scott, Rhys Truscott and Kaydin Walsh on target.

Best for the Blues were Lachlan Read, Brock Checkley, Charlie Torr and Hudson Browne.

Mount Pleasant played White Hills in the under-15 girls, reserves match at the White Hills ground in Scott Street.

The home team led 37-16 at half-time and 48-19 at a quarter to play.

Mount Pleasant’s best quarter was the last as the Blues scored two goals and held the red and black to a tally of three behinds.

At the final siren White Hills led 51-31.

Goalkickers for Mount Pleasant were captain Emily Brown and vice-captain Drew Browne on two each.

Best for the Blues were Emily Brown, Ruby Reid, Lilian Tsiorlas and Georgia Rankin.

Heathcote and Mount Pleasant have teamed up in the under-16 reserves, division two competition.

The Blues/Saints took on Lockington Bamawm United Cats at Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval.

The Cats charged to a 44-nil by quarter time and then scored 10, six and eight goals across the next three quarters on their way to a 202-15 victory.

Cody Cook was in hot form as he kicked six goals for LBU and Campbell Keele and Charlie McIntyre kicked five.

Other multiple goalkickers were Cooper Rowlands, three; Kiefer Haines, Cody Isherwood, Harrison Lees, two.

The Cats also had Harrison Condliffe and Cory Rowlands on the goalkicking list.

Best for LBU were Charlie McIntyre, Harrison Lees, Cody Isherwood and Cody Cook.

Tyson Byrne, Max Day, Max Dellar and Will James were best for Heathcote-Mount Pleasant.

The Leitchville Gunbower Bombers marked a 10-goal win against Kangaroo Flat in the under-16 reserves, division two clash in Lockington.

The Bombers led 69-19 at half-time and goalkicking accuracy was a highlight in a score of 21.7 (133) as the Roos kicked 6.4 (40).

Charlie Hauser led LG’s attack on four goals as Tait Simmons kicked three.

Bombers’ team-mates Oskar Fletcher, Jasper and Jax Hare, Nathan Mihailovic, Hugh Ralston added two each.

Other goalkickers listed by the winners were Scout Mitchell, Paddy Quinlan and Judd Spittal.

Best for the Bombers were Nathan Mihailovic, Tait Simmonds, Charlie Hauser and Hugh Ralston.

Round six in the under-12 Girls home-and-away series kicked off Friday night when matches were played at Kennington’s Harry Trott Oval, White Hills, and Rochester’s Windridge Oval.

Mount Pleasant won a closely-fought match with South Bendigo Red at Harry Trott Oval in Neale Street.

The Blues led 21-9 at the final siren.

Goalkickers for Mount Pleasant were Eliza Carmody, Remmi Comer and Flora Strachan.

Best for the Blues were Eliza Carmody, Pippa Shannon and Emma Browne.

Remi Morrice goaled for the Bloods as Annabel van Dillen, Leila Pellegrino, Mackinnon Murphy and Arlie Brown were best.

Golden Square scored a 31-point win against South Bendigo White at Harry Trott Oval.

The blue and gold led 26-7 at half-time and then scored 2.7 in the next two quarters as the Bloods added 1.1.

At the final siren Golden Square led 45-14.

The Bulldogs had six goalkickers and the Bloods had two.

Best for Golden Square were Abigail Potter, Stella Tully, Ruby Carter and Makayla Soko.

Indi Saunders, Macie Pilcher, Olivia Gardiner and Mayah McClelland played well for South Bendigo White.

St Francis scored a big win against White Hills.

The St Francis line-up won 76-6 in the Demons’ den in Scott Street, White Hills.

Layla Hand and Billie McCulloch kicked three goals each.

White Hills captain Shay Pearce was on target for her team.

Best for St Francis were Molly Cail, Samantha Perry, Eden Rogers and Layla Hand.

Lola McGrath, Eliza Rendwick-Deards, Shay Pearce and Ebony Morley were best for the Demons.

St Therese’s kicked 16 goals in its win against Eaglehawk at White Hills.

The Sharks led 52-nil at half-time and added another eight goals in the second half to complete a 103-nil victory.

Perry Westley dominated in the Sharks’ attack on eight goals as Lyra Haythorpe and Sage Reid added two each.

Best for St Therese’s were Elsie Gretgrix, Sage Reid, Zinea Griffiths and Cleo Fahey.

Amaya O’Connell, Lainey Davidson, Ivy Thorpe and Annabelle Lloyd played well for Eaglehawk.

Rochester had 25 scoring shots in its win against Marong Yellow at Windridge Oval.

The Tigers led 24-nil at quarter-time and 61-nil by the long break.

The team in yellow and black added six goals in the third term and three in the last to complete a 120-nil victory.

Ella Forde led Rochester’s attack on five goals as Ella Mundie booted four and Ava Pratt chipped in with three.

Frankie Hay kicked two goals for the Tigers.

Best for Rochester were Ella Forde, Frankie Hay, Ella Mundie and Ava Pratt.

Marong Yellow’s best were Keely Brown, Josie White, Letty Lovell and Lara Hendy.

Marong Blue had the bye.
