Tigers clip Eagles wings in Woorinen

THE Woorinen Tigers broke the unbeaten run of the Mallee Eagles in Saturday’s fourth round of the Radio 3SH-backed senior footy in the Central Murray league.

Both teams were on a three-game winning streak rolling into the match on Woorinen’s turf.

The Tim Free-coached Tigers raced to a 32-9 lead by quarter-time.

Mallee fought back strongly to win the second term, 26-8.

A score of 4.4 as it kept the Eagles to a tally of 2.1 in the third meant Woorinen  led 68-48 going into the last quarter.

Both teams added two goals in the final term as Woorinen marked an 82-65 victory.

Woorinen’s attack was led by Hugh Thompson with three goals as Will Collicoat, Jose Miliado and Josh Stone added two each.

Eagles’ co-coach Brent Macleod kicked a match-high six goals.

Henry Thompson, Jose Miliado, Lachlan and Matthew Gardner, Blake Reid and Robert Rush were best for the yellow and black.

The Eagles’ best were Harry and Tom McGregor, co-coach Harry Allen, Hamish McGregor, Isaiah Bull and Brent Macleod.

Cohuna Kangas were too strong for Nyah Nyah West United on the Kangas’ ground.

The Jack Geary-coached Cohuna led 26-16 at quarter-time and dominated most of the second term.

As Cohuna scored six straight goals the Demons added 2.2.

A 32-point lead for the Kangas at the long break kept increasing as they won the third term, 20-9.

Led the play of on-ballers Tom Toma, Joel Helman and Ricky Monti, Cohuna kicked on to win 108-59.

Daniel Coates and Tom Toma kicked four goals each as Hudson Fountain, Joel Helman and Jacob Mitchell added two each.

Leading goalkicker for the Demons was Alex Birch on four.

Cohuna’s best included Daniel Coates, Jarrod Findlay and Chris Anderson.

Brayden Bigham, Joel Campbell, Ethan Curran, Alex Birch, Nick O’Neill and Brady Davidson were best for the Corey Daniels and Jason Murphy-coached coached NNWU Demons.

Balranald won a hard-fought contest with Tyntynder by four points.

The Kangaroos and Bulldogs were desperate to break their season ‘duck’.

Balranald raced to a 38-3 lead by quarter-time before the Bulldogs bit back to score 3.4 to a goal in the second.

It was eight points in favour of the Roos going into the last quarter.

Although Tyntynder won the final, 17-13, it was the Roos who led 59-55 at the final siren.

Ben Fuller kicked a match-high four goals for Balranald as Brad Hartman kicked two.

The Bulldogs’ attack was led by Elia Ware on three.

Balranald’s best were Brad Hartman, Ryan Middlebrook, Cody Henness, Lachlan Collihole, Jack Helgeland and Roarke Smith.

Best for Tyntynder were Josh Potter, Elia Ware, Darcy Bibby, Jahmahl Jenkins-Clive, Charlie For and Seno Fifita.

Co-coaches of Balranald are Ben Fuller, Ben Mahon and Jack Salau.

This season it’s Darcy Bibby, Justin Ellis and Charlie Ford who have teamed up as Tyntynder’s co-coaches.

Kerang marked an 87-76 victory against Koondrook Barham at Barham.

The Paul Grayling-coached Kerang led 26-18 at half-time.

Both teams scored four goals in the second as the Blues were up 51-47 by the long break.

Kerang won the third, 3.4 to 2.3.

An 11-point lead was maintained by the Blues in the last as they and the River Raiders added 2.2.

Bohden McKnight capped a best afield feat with two goals for Kerang as team-mates Mason Dibsdale, Ethan and Flynn McKnight added two each.

Koondrook Barham’s attack was led by Matt Bilton with three goasl as Ryan Bassett, Lee Dale and Warren Lolicato added two each.

Best for Kerang were Bohden McKnight, Hugh Bremner, Archer Dibsdale, Leigham McAlpine and Rylee Gitsham.

Lee Dale, Matt Bilton, Jack Thrum, Ryan Bassett, Benji Neal and Jack Shannon played well for the Marcus Demaria-coached River Raiders.

Five goals in the second and another five in the third quarter put Lake Boga well in control of its clash on Swan Hill’s turf.

The Michael Herlihy-coached Swans led 21-20 at quarter-time, but it was Lake Boga which slammed on 10.4 and kept the hosts to a tally of 2.3 in the next two terms.

Nathaniel Holmes-Brown and Braden Padmore capitalised on the Magpies’ teamwork with five goals each to be their team’s best as Bryce Anderson and Jayden Lonergan kicked two in a 98-53 victory.

Swan Hill’s attack was led by Kallen Heslop and Harry Scott on two each.

Best for the Dean Helmers-coached Lake Boga included Darby Hayes, Jayden Lonergan, Xavier Sherlock and Nelson Ibbs.

Harry Scott, Cooper Angus, Lane Cardenas, Tom Holdstock, Jared and Brenton Halligan played well for the Swans.

Tooleybuc Manangatang had the bye.

In next Saturday’s fifth round it’s third against second as Mallee Eagles face Cohuna Kangas at Lalbert from 2.30pm.

Kerang will on home turf at Riverside Park for its showdown with the ladder-leading Woorinen.

Lake Boga will be on home turf against Koondrook Barham.,

Tooleybuc Manangatang and Swan Hill clash at Tooleybuc Recreation Reserve.

Nyah Nyah West United faces Balranald in the Demons’ den at Nyah Recreation Reserve.
