AFL Central Victoria Media Release – New Commissioner Judy Bourke
The AFL Central Victoria Region Commission is delighted to announce the appointment of Judy Bourke to the Commission. Judy was elected by the Commissioners to fill a casual vacancy replacing Meagan Keating.
Judy holds Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Veterinary Science, both from the University of Melbourne. She is an academic lawyer lecturing and tutoring at the University of Melbourne and has practical legal experience as an advocate (current) and solicitor. Her employment experience includes working as a university lecturer, legal writer, advocate, and solicitor.
Judy’s areas of interests include legal practice, animal law, disability law and clarity in legal writing. She was Secretary and Treasurer of the Kew Junior Football Club from 2009 to 2015 and remains an active member of the Victorian Racing Tribunal.
On announcing Judy’s appointment, Commission Chair, Nicholas Rolfe, said “We are delighted to have Judy join the Commission with the broad and valuable range of skills she brings. In addition to her professional background, Judy has a sound understanding of community sport through her role with the Kew Junior Football Club when her children played. It is also important that we have been able to recruit another female member onto the Commission”.
Judy was excited to be selected onto the Commission stating “AFL Central Victoria provides a valuable service to the football and netball communities across such a wide geographic region. I look forward to learning more about the region, it’s challenges and opportunities, and adding value through my experience and knowledge”.
The Commission take this opportunity to thank Meagan Keating for her significant contribution over her 9 years as a Commission member.
