Woorinen defeats reigning premier on Anzac Day

THE Woorinen Tigers defeated Nyah Nyah West United on Anzac Day to kick off round three in the Radio 3SH-backed Central Murray senior football competition.

The Demons and Tigers played under lights at Nyah Recreation Reserve.

Woorinen made a great start to lead 19-8 at quarter-time and 33-16 by the main break.

It was a closely-fought third term in the slippery conditions which went the way of the yellow and black, 10-8.

Inspired by the play of Lachlan Gardner, Blake Reid and Jye Barry, Woorinen took the premiership points in a 52-31 result.

Will Collicoat and Daniel Mase kicked two goals for Woorinen.

Best for a Tigers’ team coached by Tim Free included Henry Thompson, Taylor Cameron and Jose Miliado.

Joel Campbell, Jordan Iudica, Cooper Andrews, Brady Davidson, Jaydyn Stirling and Joel Walsh were best for the Corey Daniels and Jason Murphy-coached NNWU Demons.

On Saturday, Tooleybuc Manangatang marked a 115-58 win at Lake Boga.

The Brad Morris-coached Saints charged to a 29-7 lead by quarter-time and still held a four-goal buffer by the long break.

Eight goals straight capped Tooleybuc Manangatang’s dominance in the third quarter.

An eight goal haul by Connor Nutting was outstanding as Isaac Franks booted four goals and Connor McDonald added two.

Lake Boga’s attack was led by Jayden Lonergan and Rex Hickman on three and two goals.

Best for the Saints were Connor McDonald, Josh Williams, Blake Grant, Elliot Chalmers, Connor Nutting and Josh Domaille.

Koben Ryan, Marty Parsons, Rex Hickman, Darby Hayes, Hunter Hartland and Charlie Bryan played well for the Dean Helmers-coached Magpies.

Cohuna Kangas bounced their way to a 14-goal win against Tyntynder at Swan Hill’s Alan Garden Reserve.

The Kangas led 14-9 at quarter-time and then surged to a 27-point lead by the main break after they scored 6.2 and held the Bulldogs to a tally of 2.4 in the second term.

The Jack Geary-coached Cohuna dominated the final hour.

As the Kangas added another nine goals they kept Tyntynder goalless to complete a 114-30 result.

Corbin Anderson, Brodie Fry and Tom Toma finished on three goals each as Joel Helman, Jacob Mitchell and Jude Palmer added two.

Tyntynder’s leading goalkicker was Elia Ware on two.

Best for Cohuna were gun recruits Ricky Monti and Tom Toma from Golden Square.

The Kangas also had Brodie Fry, Jude Palmer, Sam McGlone and Will Lee win plenty of the football.

Charlie Ford, Harry Simpson, Josh Potter, Bailey Reeves, Elliot Broad and Kyle Doran were best for a Tyntynder team which has Darcy Bibby, Justin Ellis and Charlie Ford as co-coaches.

Mallee Eagles soared to a 19-goal win against Koondrook Barham at Lalbert.

The Eagles made a brilliant start as they scored eight goals in the first term to lead 53-7 at the break.

Mallee had passed the century mark by half-time after it scored another eight goals in the second quarter.

Koondrook Barham kept working hard and scored six goals across the final hour as the Eagles added 11.

Andrew Mead-Harding finished with seven goals as co-coach Brent Macleod added six in the 175-61 victory.

Other multiple goalkickers for the Eagles were co-coach Harry Allen, Darcy McGregor on three and Ethan Pinchen on two.

A list of Koondrook Barham’s goalkickers was not supplied.

Best for Mallee Eagles were Isaiah Bull, Matthew Rankine, Toby Sheahan, Zac O’Meara, Andrew Mead-Harding and Tom McGregor.

Lee Dale, Benji Neal, Jacob Barrington, Matt Bilton, Harry Bremner and Lachlan Bates worked hard for the Marcus Demaria-coached River Raiders.

Kerang marked its first win of the season in a 52-15 result on home turf at Riverside Park against Swan Hill.

Defences were on top for most of the contest.

The Paul Grayling-coached Kerang raced to a 25-7 lead by quarter-time.

The Blues worked hard to limit the Swans to just two goals for the match.

Jordan McNeil and Brad Pay kicked two goals apiece for Kerang.

Best for the Blues were Dominic Dick-O’Flaherty, Brad Pay, Hugh Bremner, Cody Makeham, Martin Kelly and Bohden McKnight.

Kallen Heslop, Will Simpson, Jared Halligan, Sunny Handy, Adam Manning and Will Burns were best for the Michael Herlihy-coached Swans.

Balranald had the bye.

In next Saturday’s fourth round, Woorinen and Mallee Eagles meet in the top of the table clash on Woorinen’s turf at 2.30pm.

Cohuna Kangas will play Nyah Nyah West United on the Kangas’ ground.

Swan Hill tackles Lake Boga at Swan Hill Recreation Reserve.

Koondrook Barham faces Kerang at Barham.

Balranald and Tyntynder meet at Balranald’s Greenham Park.

Tooleybuc Manangatang has the bye.
