Woorinen breaks White Hills unbeaten run

THE Woorinen Tigers broke the unbeaten run of the Winslow White Hills Demons in Sunday’s 13th round of the Champions IGA-backed CVFL under-18 girls footy competition.

Woorinen dominated play on its ground against the ladder leaders.

The Tigers charged to a 25-6 lead at quarter-time and did not let up.

Woorinen won the second term, 18-2, and then scored 3.8 as it kept the Demons scoreless in the third term.

Issy Boulton kicked a match high three goals as Grace Ayars and Lauren Clarke added two in an 81-9 victory.

Demons’ captain Eve Cail kicked her team’s only goal.

Best for Woorinen were Charli Conway, Nevaeah Roberts, Milla Stewart, Lanie Somerville, Mayla Conway and Emilie Ward.

Chelsea Edwards, Ella Henery, Jayda Alford, Ella Watkins, Matilda Meersbergen and Amelie Haigh worked hard for the red and black.

Golden Square marked a 10-goal win against Castlemaine at Fur Life Oval in Golden Square’s Wade Street on Friday night.

The blue and gold led by 23 points at quarter-time and 40 by the long break.

Golden Square did plenty of attacking as it finished with a score of 7.20 (62) as the Magpies were kept scoreless.

Ruby Demeo and Lily Mansfield kicked two goals for the Bulldogs.

Best for Golden Square were Lily Mansfield, Ella Gourley, Ava Barker, Jayda Lockwood, Lucy Johansen and Bryanna Colliver.

Shelby Kitchingham, Piper Marshall, Lori Whaley, Kirah and Olivia Muscat, and Tegan Barry worked hard for Castlemaine.

The other match on Friday night was at Eaglehawk’s Canterbury Park where the Hawks took on Strathfieldsaye.

The visitors stormed to a 19-7 lead by quarter-time.

Eaglehawk hit back to win the second, 13-9.

An eight-point lead for Strathfieldsaye at half-time grew to 17 at a quarter to play.

Strathfieldsaye kicked on to win 66-32.

A list of Storm’s goalkickers and best players was not supplied.

The Hawks’ attack was led by Lilly Stevenson with two goals.

Best for Eaglehawk were Tahlia Thorpe, Jess Dover, Isabelle James, Jamieson Brown, Zoe Hodgskiss and Ilaura Hudson.

Sandhurst had the bye.

Round 14 kicks off with Friday night’s match between Castlemaine and Eaglehawk at Castlemaine’s Camp Reserve at 5.45pm.

On Sunday it will be Strathfieldsaye against White Hills at Triple M Park in Strathfieldsaye’s Tannery Lane from 10.30am.

Sandhurst faces Woorinen at Ewing Park from 11.15am.

Golden Square has the bye.
