Tigers claw way to victory at Wandella

THE Macorna Tigers dug their claws in to record a three-point victory at Wandella in Saturday’s 11th round of senior footy action in the Golden Rivers season.

Down by margins of 11, nine and nine points at each of the quarter breaks, Macorna made a brilliant fightback in the final term.

The Tigers scored 3.2 and kept the Bombers to a tally of 1.2 in the last as they won 78-75.

Both teams are now on 20 premiership points and third and fourth on the ladder at five round to go in the home-and-away series.

Macorna’s attack was led by Johnny Dawes and Josh MacPherson on three goals as Sam Whinfield added two.

Michael Rowe kicked a match-high goals for Wandella as Jayden Crellin and Logan Keighran added two each.

Best for Macorna were Josh MacPherson, Harley Somerville, Johnny Dawes, Malcolm Neiwand, Matthew Angel and Xavier Wishart.

Kaine O’Connell, Russell Rich, Tim Robinson, Michael Rowe, Archer Lancaster and Adam McKenzie were the Bombers’ best.

Seven goals to four in the second half clinched a 39-point victory for Ultima at Moulamein.

The Kangaroos did plenty of atacking in the first quarter, but was let down by inaccuracy as they scored 2.7 and Moulamein booted three straight goals.

Ultima won the second term, 27-13.

A tally of 3.2 to a goal in the third put the Roos in control of the contest.

Ryan Devereux went on to kick four goals as Ultima won 94-55.

Other multiple goalkickers for the Kangaroos were Bailey Codling and Lincoln Frost on two.

Moulamein’s attack was led by Hunter Hartland and Ely Miller on three each.

Best for Ultima were Mitchell Seton-Stewart, Ryan Featherby, Zac Cattlin, Jacob Schaper, Caillum Brady and Bailey Codling.

Rodney Reeves, Cody Storm, Heath Moloney, Will Gibson, Jayden Hauesler and Mitch Ryan played well for the Swans.

Hay dominated play at Murrabit to win by 119 points.

The Lions scored 6.6 to 3.2 in the first term and then racked up goal tallies of seven, six and four goals in the next three quarters.

At the final siren Hay led 159 to 40.

Declan Watson was in superb touch as he kicked nine goals and Jim Houston added four.

Jensen Hargreaves capped a best afield performance with three goals as Jack Headon kicked two.

Murrabit’s attack was led by Jack Shannahan on two goals.

Best for the Lions were Jensen Hargreaves, Jacob Watson, Jack Cattanach, Declan Watson, Tom Spence and Jayden Kinces.

Jack Shannahan, Jordan Lampi, Nathan O’Toole, Austin McKerrow, Jacob Wade and James Harvey played well for the Blues.

Golden Rivers senior footy ladder:

Hay 321 per cent, 44 points; Ultima 216, 36; Wandella 83, 20; Macorna 71, 20; Murrabit 50, 8; Moulamein 55, 4.

In next Saturday’s round 12 action, Hay will be at home against Moulamein.

Macorna tackles Murrabit in the clash of the Tigers and Blues.

Ultima meets Wandella at Ultima Recreation Reserve.
