Newbridge wins great contest with Eagles
NEWBRIDGE fought on to score a four-goal win against Maiden Gully YCW in Saturday’s 15th round of A-grade netball in the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley FNL season.
The Maroons made their way to the Eagles’ court at Marist College Bendigo in Maiden Gully.
A 48-44 victory ensured the Selina Holland and Kristy Gandy would hold third place and the double chance for finals time at three rounds to go in the home-and-away series.
Although disappointed not to have taken the points the Adam Boldiston-coached Maiden Gully YCW showed it will be no pushover.
In the next three rounds the Eagles play on Marong’s court in Malone Park, face Bears-Lagoon Serpentine in Maiden Gully, and then play at Pyramid Hill’s Mitchell Park.
It’s a tough run for Newbridge which returns to Walker’s Doughnuts Riverside Oval for Saturday’s home game against Pyramid Hill.
The Maroons play at Calivil in the 17th round and then meet Mitiamo a week later in Newbridge.
Favourites took the four premiership points in Saturday’s three other matches.
Bridgewater won a closely-fought contest at home with Marong by six goals.
The Caz Wood and Olivia Collicoat-coached Bridgewater marked a 50-44 win againt the Robyn Cunnington-coached Panthers.
An in-form Bears-Lagoon Serpentine netted a 37-goal win on Calivil United’s court.
The Danielle O’Toole-coached Bears led 69-32 at the final siren of the clash with the Haylee Fawcett-coached Demons.
Mitiamo reached the 70-goal mark in its home game with Inglewood at John Forbes Oval.
The Jen Wilson-coached Superoos won 70-23 against the Abbey Hayes-coached Blues.
Pyramid Hill had the bye.

Inglewood takes on Calivil United at Inglewood’s Centre State Scaffolding Oval.
It’s fourth against first as Bears-Lagoon Serpentine faces Mitiamo at Gadsden Finance Serpentine Reserve.
Marong and Maiden Gully YCW clash at East West Oval in Marong’s Malone Park.
Bridgewater has the bye.
