League marks Indigenous Round

CLUBS in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s and under-18s competitions will mark Indigenous Round this weekend.

Action in the 13th round for the senior league kicks off with Friday night’s match at the Scott Street ground in White Hills.

The Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons will be in the den for a 7pm showdown with the ladder-leading Castlemaine.

When these clubs met in Pink Round it was Castlemaine which scored a 92-point victory on its Camp Reserve turf.

Latest hit-out for White Hills ended in a 49-7 win at home against North Bendigo in the 11th round.

Castlemaine dominated last Sunday’s match at Jackal Oval in Marong’s Malone Park to beat the Panthers by 16 goals.

Key match-ups for the Phil Murley-coached White Hills include Leonie Schulz at full-back against Eloise Gretgrix, Maiya Pearce in the centre against Aisling Tupper, and Rosie Davies ruck-roving against Jemma Finning.

Other key players for the Demons include Sasha Pearce, Acacia and Chelsea Edwards, Hannah Ripper and Tracey Anderson.

An eight-one record has Castlemaine again leading the race in its chase of a fourth consecutive premiership.

A powerful Magpies’ line-up coached by Jordan Cochrane includes Brianna Burt, Chelsea Cole, Taylah Sartori, Georgia Gordon, Abbey Klemm and Evie Nuttall.

It’s a twilight match on Saturday as North Bendigo faces Eaglehawk at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street from 5.30pm.

When these teams met on Good Friday the Molly Metcalf-coached Eaglehawk won its turf at Canterbury Park by 129 points.

A North Bendigo team coached by Jaydene Burzacott and Zak Carter will be determined to put in a stronger showing this time.

Best for the Bulldogs in their latest clash at White Hills were Heidi Schneider, Roweena Ilsley, Peta T, and Ajay Turner.

North Bendigo’s squad includes Cassandra Coughlan, Kayla-Brea McIntosh, Quetta Holloway-Jinks and key forward Kira Gibbons.

The Hawks teamed superbly in a 98-point win against Bendigo Thunder at Weeroona Oval last Sunday.

Best for the Two Blues were Lexie Moss, Lucy El Hage, Caitlin Evans and Shelby Faulkner.

Eaglehawk’s squad includes Molly Pianta, Freyja Pearce, Grace Edlin, Shanae Sawyer and captain Emily Field.

The round will be completed with two matches on Sunday starting at 1pm.

Bendigo Thunder will be on home turf at Weeroona Oval against Sandhurst.

Huge challenge for the Mick McInnes-coached Thunder against an opponent which won the round five clash by 136 points on Queen Elizabeth Oval.

Key duels for Thunder against the Dragons this time include Stacey Barbagallo in the ruck against Chloe Swatton, Sharlene Cole at centre half-back against Scout Carmody.

It’s a clash of the captains as Thunder’s Katherine Christie takes on Ruby Campbell.

Huge test for Thunder team-mates Maddi Brackenreg, Estella Murphy and Rachel Salm in defence.

A Sandhurst line-up coached by Andrew Saladino and Liam Ireland includes Amanda Carrod, Eilish Grieve, Sarah Baldwin and Arkie Donnelly.

Marong Panthers will be back in the Malone Park den to take on Golden Square.

When these clubs met in Pink Round the Bulldogs beat the Panthers by 71 points.

Huge test for the Jimmy Evenden and Daniel Bourke-coached Marong against an opponent which has a seven-three record and is third on the ladder.

Marong has played great football to be on four-five record and just a win, but sizeable percentage behind the fourth-placed Sandhurst.

The Panthers are on the rebound from defeat.

Marong’s squad includes Jaime Sawers, co-captain Hannah Cue, Caitlin Shaw, Kayla Grant and Bridget Chalkley.
