Bloods clip Hawks wings at Elmore

ELMORE unleashed a brilliant final quarter to defeat the Harlowe Huntly Hawks in Saturday’s 12th round of A-grade netball in the Bendigo Bank Heathcote DFNL season.

The Bloods and Hawks played a closely-fought match on Elmore’s court.

A Huntly team coached by Ashlea Sherlock and Kym Bell led 11-8 at quarter-time.

By half time Elmore was within a goal as the brown and gold led 23-22 at the long break.

Huntly then won the third quarter, 10-8.

In the last term it was the Bloods who lifted their play in all thirds of the court.

As Elmore scored 14 goals it kept the Hawks to a tally of six.

By the final siren the Elmore team coached by Cayde Hayes, playing, and Hayley Langdon, non-playing, led 44-39.

Victory ensured Elmore moved eight premiership points clear of the sixth-placed North Bendigo which was beaten by the Winslow Constructors White Hills.

Back in round four the Kiralee Kinder-coached North Bendigo achieved a long-awaited victory against the Demons on their court in Scott Street.

On Saturday, North Bendigo marked Indigenous Day, but could not stop the Demons taking the points this time.

The Elly Lawton-coached White Hills won 41-33 and ensured it would stay in second place.

Results at Gunbower and Colbinabbin went at expected.

The Grant Matthews-coached Leitchville Gunbower was at home against the in-form Mount Pleasant.

After winning the first quarter, 14-8, Mount Pleasant dominated the second term.

The Anthea McCleary-coached Blues charged to a 32-14 lead by half-time.

Leitchville Gunbower fought back to score 12 goals in the third term as Mounts added 14.

By the final whistle the Blues led 67-38 and has doubled last season’s win tally of four matches.

Colbinabbin’s hot streak kept rolling on its court at M.J. Morgan Oval against Lockington Bamawm United.

The Jen McIntyre-coached Colbinabbin charged to an 18-5 lead by quarter-time.

Consistency is a trademark of the Grasshoppers play as they scored 20, 23 and 20 goals in the next three quarters.

The LBU team coached by Kerryn Giorgianni and Shelby Stone worked hard to score 10, 10 and 12 goals.

At the final whitle Colbinabbin led 81-37.

It was a bye for the Anna Dundon-coached Heathcote.

In next Saturday’s round 13 action, Heathcote and Lockington Bamawm United will play at Pigeon Park in Heathcote’s Barrack Reserve from 1.45pm.

It’s a chance for the Saints to net win number two, or for LBU to achieve its first victory of the season.

All other A-grade matches will start at 2.30pm.

Mount Pleasant and Elmore meet on the Blues’ court in Toolleen as third faces fifth.

The Harlowe Huntly Hawks face North Bendigo at Huntly’s Strauch Reserve.

Colbinabbin and Leitchville Gunbower will play on the Grasshoppers’ court at Colbinabbin’s M.J. Morgan Oval.

The Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons have the bye.
