Sandhurst strengthens top-four berth

SANDHURST strengthened its grip on the fourth rung as it beat Marong in Sunday’s match to complete round four in the Champions IGA—backed CVFL senior women’s footy competition.

The Dragons and Panthers played at Queen Elizabeth Oval.

It was fourth against fifth as Sandhurst started the round two wins clear of Marong.

At quarter-time it was Sandhurst in front, 19-7.

Defences were on top in the second term as the Dragons led 21-8 by the main break.

The Dragons won the next two quarters, 13-6 and 13-7.

Scout Carmody and Amanda Carrod both finished with a match-high three goals in a 47-21 victory for Sandhurst.

Marong’s goalkickers were Dani Jeffery, Lauren Knight and Regeena Torney.

Best for Sandhurst were Arkie Donnelly, Katie Walker, Chloe Swatton, Lara Bish, Amanda Carrod and Ruby Campbell.

The maroon and blue is jointly coached by Andrew Saladino and Liam Ireland.

Marong’s best were Hayley Martiniello, Dani Jeffery, Hannah Cue, Caitlin Shaw, Bianca Bourke and Katrina Alford.

The Panthers are coached by Jimmy Evenden and Daniel Bourke.

The round kicked off with Saturday night’s match between Castlemaine and North Bendigo at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street.

It was another ruthless performance by Castlemaine as it marked a 148-nil victory.

The Jordan Cochrane-coached Magpies charged to a 39-point lead by quarter-time and then scored seven, five and four goals across the next three terms.

Key forward and vice-captain Eloise Gretgrix increased her lead in the goalkicking race as she slotted eight goals.

Other multiple goalkickers for the Magpies were Hannah Cochrane, five; Jemma Finning, four; Brianna Burt and Maeve Tupper, two.

Best for Castlemaine were Abbey Bertram, Maeve Tupper, Eloise Gretgrix, Eillish Cumming, Hannah Cochrane and Mia Martin.

North Bendigo’s best were Marguerita Murphy, Cassandra Coughlan, Maddison Mansfield, Ella Dobell and Ashlyne McInnes.

The Bulldogs are jointly coached by Jaydene Burzacott and Zak Carter.

Golden Square racked up 28 scoring shots in Sunday’s clash with Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons at Golden Square’s Wade Street ground.

The Bulldogs led 23-nil at quarter-time and 50-nil by half-time.

Bella Eddy and captain Liz Watkins led the attack on three goals each as Golden Square kicked away for a 93-nil victory.

Gabby Drage also booted two goals for the blue and gold.

Best for Golden Square were Lauren Suleiman, Jetah Keighran, Gabby Drage, Claire Picone, Kate Douglass and Holly Smith.

Chelsea Edwards, Sasha and Maiya Pearce, Kara Kane and Gabby Speirs played well for the Phil Murley coached White Hills.

It was a bye for Bendigo Thunder and Eaglehawk.

Pride Round kicks off with Friday night’s match between Eaglehawk and Castlemaine on the Borough’s turf in Canterbury Park at 7.15pm.

Three matches will be played on Sunday from 1pm to complete the 15th round.

North Bendigo takes on Sandhurst at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street.

Golden Square will be on home turf in Wade Street to play Bendigo Thunder.

The Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons take on Marong at the Scott Street ground in White Hills.

The Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons marked an upset win at Golden Square in Sunday’s 14th round in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL under-18 girls competition.

It was second against fourth on Golden Square’s turf in Wade Street.

White Hills won 38-18 in what was the Bulldogs second loss of the season.

Layla O’Brien and Sophie O’Connell led the Demons attack on two goals each.

Golden Square’s goalkickers were Ruby Demeo and Lily Mansfield.

Best for White Hills were Sophie O’Connell, Layla O’Brien, Reagan Wirken, Lily Eickert, Madisyn Morrison and Yasmine Edwards.

Charlotte Crane, Lily Mansfield, Lucy Johansen, Lucy Gilbee, Makayla Roberts and Remi Cooke-Kingston were Golden Square’s best.

Sandhurst scored a 65-34 win against Strathfieldsaye Storm at Queen Elizabeth Oval.

Leni Brown booted three goals as captain Eilish Grieve and Miz Maxted added two each for the Dragons.

Storm’s attack was led by Jordan O’Bree on three.

Best for Sandhurst were Milla Franklin, Leni Brown, Eilish Grieve, Tully Place, Abigail Schmidt and Kyah Spiteri.

Strathfieldsaye’s best were Scarlett Ward, Tessa Skipper, Chella Fitzgerald, Jordan O’Bree and Caitlin Daley.

The Woorinen Tigers roared in a 124-12 victory at home against Eaglehawk.

Ruby Tierney led the attack on five goals as Sunny Barry booted three.

Other multiple goalkickers for the yellow and black were Stella Bibby and Issy Boulton with two.

Woorinen’s best were Carly Shepherd, Ruby Tierney, Charli Conway, Sunny Barry, Stella Bibby and Ruby Butler.

Kelly Neighbour, Sezin Lees, Tia Anderson, Bobbie Fasham and Tarly West were Eaglehawk’s best.

Kangaroo Flat had the bye.
