Marong fights for victory on Maryborough’s ground

MARONG marked the trek to Maryborough’s Princes Park by winning the under-16 reserves, division one clash in the weekend’s 12th round in the Bendigo Junior Football League season.

The Panthers led 20-9 at quarter-time and 33-17 by the main break in Maryborough.

Quarter three was Marong’s best of the contest as it scored five goals and kept the Magpies to a tally of two points.

Ryan Marwood went on to kick a match-high four goals as Caleb Dudderidge chipped in with three as Marong won 86-32.

Harry Dunn slotted two majors for the Panthers as William Hope, Jaxon Marwood, Jack Miller and Blake Wells were also on target.

Best for Marong were captain Jack Miller, Blake Wells, Jaxon Marwood, Ash Curnow, Harry Wilson and Ryan Marwood.

Marong Red fought on for a 47-40 win against St Therese’s in the under-12B match at Bendigo’s Ewing Park.

The St Therese’s team raced to a 19-nil lead by quarter-time.

Marong hit back to trail 20-25 at the long break.

The Sharks won the third term, 14-6, but it was Marong which powered home to score 3.3 as it kept St Therese’s to a point in the last quarter.

Harvey Atkinson kicked three goals in a best on ground performance as Hunter Orchard booted two in 47-40 win by Marong.

Best for the Panthers were Harvey Atkinson, Coby Horne, Hunter Orchard, Rheef Smit, Alfie Healey and Tom Roberts.

In the under-12C competition, Marong Blue played White Hills Black at Jackal Oval in Marong’s Malone Park.

The White Hills Demons fired up to win 76-nil.

Best for Marong Blue were Cruze Lobley, Tadhg Condick, Jake Malone, James Humme, Jude Bentley and Charlie Miller.

It was the Panthers against the Kangaroos as Marong met Kangaroo Flat in the under-15 Girls senior match on the Kangaroos’ ground in Dower Park.

Kangaroo Flat raced to a 28-8 lead by half-time.

It was an evenly-fought second half in which Marong scored eight points and the Roos added 16 points.

The Kangaroos won 44-16 as Phoebe England and Imogine O’Brien were on target for Marong.

Best for the Panthers were Phoebe England, Sophie Bourke, Emma O’Toole, Charlize Humme, El Taylor and Livia Moresi.

Marong B took on Rochester in the under-15 Girls reserves match at Jackal Oval in Marong’s Malone Park.

The Tigers from Rochester won 66-12.

Goalkickers for Marong were Zali Bingham and Juliet Ryan.

Best for the Panthers were Madison Cornell, Ruby Richards, Jasmine Baker, Matilda Tucker, Juliet Ryan and Heidi Tredwen.

Marong tackled Eaglehawk in the under-14 reserves, division one match at California Gully.

The Hawks led 39-28 at half-time and then scored 5.3 as the Panthers added 3.1 in the third term.

By the final siren the Two Blues led 99-59.

Jack Atkinson led Marong’s attack on three goals as Jackson Cross kicked two.

Best for the Panthers were Finn Neivandt, Indie Gardam, Caden McCurdy, Nattai Carter, Jack Metherell and Max Manning.

Marong Blue played Rochester in Friday night’s under-12 Girls match on O’Keefe Oval at Mercy Junortoun Sports Precinct.

It was a tough night for Marong as Rochester kicked on for a 57-1 victory.

A list of Marong’s best players was not supplied.

It was a bye for Marong Yellow in the under-12 Girls competition.
