SANDHURST gained an edge on likely first semi-final opponent Eaglehawk in round 17 of Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy.
The Dragons and Hawks kicked off the second last round in the home-and-away series under Friday night lights at Queen Elizabeth Oval.
The Dragons were fired up from the first ball-up and raced to a 19-6 lead by quarter-time.
From there it was an evenly-fought contest.
Sandhurst won the second quarter, two-nil.
The Molly Metcalf-coached Eaglehawk struck back to score two goals as it kept the maroon and blue to a point in the third.
The Andrew Saladino and Liam Ireland-coached Sandhurst finished the match with plenty of run.
As the Dragons added 1.2 they kept the Hawks scoreless to complete a 30-18 victory.
Goalkickers for Sandhurst were Scout Carmody, Paynton Jolliffe, Chelsea Reeves and Charlotte Scanlon.
The Hawks’ attack was led by Grace Edlin, Freyja Pearce and Molly Pianta.
Best for Sandhurst were Lacey Nihill, Katie Walker, Paynton Jolliffe, Varlee Nihill, Ruby Campbell and Charlotte Scanlon.
Eaglehawk’s best were Lexie Moss, Abbey Willcox, Caitlin Evans, Molly Metcalf, Molly Pianta and Lucy El Hage.
On Sunday it was the Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons who fired up on Bendigo Thunder’s turf at Weeroona Oval.
The Phil Murley-coached White Hills raced to a 22-nil lead by quarter-time and was up 39-nil at the long break.
Quarter three was to be the Demons’ best as they added 6.4.
By the final siren White Hills led 140-nil.
Amelie Haigh led the attack on three goals as Samantha Bice, Sasha Pearce and Leonie Schulz kicked two each.
Best for Whtie Hills were Hannah Ripper, Sasha Pearce, Samantha Bice, Oakley Turner, Kara Kane and Leonie Schulz.
Estella Murphy, Alannah Leach, Maddi Brackenreg, Sharlene Cole, Stacey Barbagallo and Alex Marshall were best for the Mick McInnes-coached Thunder.
Details from North Bendigo’s clash with Golden Square at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street were not supplied.
It was bye for Castlemaine and Marong.

On Sunday it will be North Bendigo against Bendigo Thunder at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street from 1pm.
The other match in the 18th round will be the Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons in the Scott Street den to play Eaglehawk from 1pm.
Golden Square and Sandhurst have the bye.

The Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons moved to the fourth rung on the Champions IGA-backed CVFL under-18 girls ladder.
As the Demons won Sunday’s round 17 clash with Kangaroo Flat, Strathfieldsaye was beaten by the ladder-leading Woorinen.
The round kicked off with Friday night’s match between Sandhurst and Eaglehawk at Queen Elizabeth Oval.
Sandhurst marked a 92-26 victory in which Mia Maxted kicked five goals and Chloe Tweed booted three.
Best for the maroon and blue were Tully Place, Kyah Spiteri, Ryah Mackie, Alannah Prowse, Mia Maxted and Phoebe Henderson.
Best for Eaglehawk were Zoe Hodgskiss, Sezin Lees, Jessica Brown, Olivia Bluemore, Tahlia Thorpe and Tia Anderson.
On Sunday, White Hills marked a 174-nil win against Kangaroo Flat in the Demons’ den in Scott Street.
Kassidy Cail kicked six goals as Mia Clark, Ella Henery and Tahlia Murphy added four each.
Bella Mapperson and Sophie O’Connell chipped in with two goals for the red and black.
Best for White Hills were Kassidy Cail, Sophie O’Connell, Matilda Meersbergen, Layla O’Brien, Ella Watkins and Tarliah Murphy.
Kangaroo Flat’s best were Isla Tyndall, Lacey Newman, Tahlee Gray, Eve Conroy and Charlotte Wylie.
Strathfieldsaye took on Woorinen in Storm territory at Triple M Park in Strathfieldsaye’s Tannery Lane.
The Tigers raced to a 36-9 lead by half-time and then scored 5.1 as they kept Storm scoreless in the third .
Strathfieldsaye worked hard to win the last, 19-9.
At the final siren the unbeaten Woorinen led 76-28.
Ruby Tierney capped a great match for the yellow and black with five goals as Sunny Barry and Stella Bibby kicked two each.
A list of Storm’s goalkickers was not supplied.
Best for Woorinen were Tyler Arnett, Ruby Tierney, Chloe Lovell, Mia Ferguson, Stella Bibby and Issy Boulton.
Gemma Fox, Jordan O’Bree, Dempsey McDonnell, Tessa Skipper, Emily Bullock and Molly Manton played well for Strathfieldsaye.
Golden Square had the bye.
