Eagles soar to big win against Cohuna Kangas

MALLEE Eagles soared to a 10-goal victory against Central Murray rival Cohuna Kangas in the Radio 3SH-backed senior footy qualifying final on Saturday.

The Eagles and Kangas clashed on day one of the finals series in Woorinen.

Cohuna started strongly and was up 21-6 by quarter-time.

In the second it was Mallee which seized control.

As the Eagles slammed on 6.6 they kept Cohuna to a major.

By half-time Mallee led 48-27.

A closely-fought third term went the way of the Eagles, 8-7.

The Brent Macleod and Harry Allen-coached Mallee team then unleashed a fourth quarter blitz.

Seven goals to one in the last capped a 101-41 victory for the Eagles.

Mallee’s attack was led by Troy Anderson, Darcy Hourigan, Andrew Mead-Harding, Ethan Pinchen and Brent Macleod on two each.

The Eagles also had Harry Allen, Zac O’Meara, Jayden Post, Matthew Rankine and Toby Sheahan on target.

Cohuna’s leading goalkicker was Tom Toma on three as Corbin Anderson slotted two and Jude Palmer the other.

Best for the Eagles were Clinton Cummins, Jacob O’Meara, Matthew Rankine, Harry Allen, Brent Macleod and Billy O’Meara.

Cohuna’s best were Tom Toma, Chris Anderson, Will Lee, Jarrod Findlay, Ricky Monti and Corbin Anderson.

The Eagles will now take on Woorinen in Saturday’s second semi-final in Barham.

Cohuna will fight to stay in the premiership race when it tackles Nyah Nyah West United in Sunday’s first semi-final at Tooleybuc.

The NNWU Demons fired up to score a 37-point victory against Koondrook Barham in Sunday’s elimination final at Swan Hill Recreation Reserve.

With sights on back-to-back premierships, NNWU has to take a difficult run in the finals.

The Corey Daniels and Jason Murphy-coached Demons charged to a 39-19 lead by quarter-time of the showdown with the KB River Raiders.

Term two went the way of the red and blue, 32-20.

A 32-point buffer for NNWU at half-time had grown to nine goals by three quarter-time.

The Marcus Demaria-coached Koondrook Barham fought on strongly to win the last term, 33-16.

At the final siren Nyah Nyah West United led 124-87 to advance to a first semi showdown with Cohuna.

The Demons’ attack was led by the brilliance of Corey Daniels on eight goals as Patrick Veszpremi added five.

Other goalkickers for NNWU were Alex Birch, two; Charlie Boulton, Jordan and Lucas Iudica, and Nic O’Neill.

Kye Atwell kicked four goals as Matt Bilton and Roy George chipped in with three each for Koondrook Barham.

Other goalkickers for the River Raiders were Nathan O’Toole, two; and Jack Shannon.

Best for Nyah Nyah West United were Brady Davidson, Corey Daniels, Alex Erlandson, Jordan Iudica, Mitch Grinham and Ethan Saville.

Jacob Barrington, Jack Shannon, Roy George, Lee Dale, Reagan Hamilton and Benji Neal played well for Koondrook Barham.

In the reserves competition, Mallee Eagles marked a four-goal win against Koondrook Barham in the qualifying final.

The Eagles were down 17-21 at half-time, but then slammed on four goals as they kept the River Raiders to a point in the third quarter.

Mallee had doubled KB’s score by three quarter-time and kicked on for a 52-28 victory.

Sean Bedggood, Charlie Kingwill and Matt Despott all kicked two goals for the Eagles as Daniel Lavey added a major.

The KB attack was led by Dwayne Weetra on two as Luke Hull and Bailey Laursen were also on target.

Best for Mallee Eagles were Matt Despott, Max Parsons, Dominic Makur, Clem Miller, Charlie Kingwill and Cameron Cook.

Louis Cain, Lachlan Vagg, Tom Amor, Rylan Attwell, Jackson Flisher and Bailey Laursen played well for the River Raiders.

It was a dramatic finish to the reserves elimination final as Lake Boga led Nyah Nyah West United, 54-50 at the siren.

It was a top match between the Magpies and Demons.

Lake Boga led 8-7 at quarter-time and the NNWU line-up was up 15-14 by half-time.

The Magpies led 27-26 going into the final term.

Both teams scored four goals in the last as Lake Boga marked a four-point win.

Goalkickers for the Magpies were Cody Mirtschin, two; and Kadek Irvan, Jai Kempen, Shannon O’Reilly, Adam Quigley and Jarrod Taylor.

The Demons’ attack was led by Aaron Threadgold on two as Kyle Armstrong, Jack Barry, Ethan Coe, Allister Pretty and Liam White slotted a goal each.

Swan Hill kicked off the Colts finals series by scoring an 83-47 win against Balranald in the qualifying final.

The Swans soared to a 31-8 lead by quarter-time.

Balranald hit back brilliant to win the second term, 18-nil.

Term three belonged to the Swans as they scored 6.4 and kept the Kangaroos to a tally of 1.1.

Although Balranald won the last, 16-12, it was Swan Hill which progressed to the second semi-final.

Cohuna Kangas put Koondrook Barham out of the premiership race in Sunday’s elimination final.

The River Raiders led 30-22 at half-time, but it was Cohuna which unleashed a seven-goal blitz in the third to be up 70-39 at three quarter-time.

By the final siren the Kangas led 77-39.

Lachlan English capped a great match with five goals for Cohuna as Jessie-James Bullock, Hudson Fountain, Ryder Glass, Caden Heap, Zephan Hensley and Cooper Lacy added one each.

Goalkickers for Koondrook Barham were Kynan Laursen, two; Jye Hamilton and Max Snowdown.

Best for Cohuna were Liam Edge, Hudson Fountain, Lachlan English, Ryder Glass, Cooper Lacy and Jessie-James Bullock.

Riley Davis, Riley Zielecki, Mitchell Lowry, Ryder and Kynan Laursen and Hugo Gray played well for Koondrook Barham.

In the Mildura Health Fund under-15s it was Kerang and Koondrook Barham who were victorious.

The Blues from Kerang faced Mallee Eagles in the qualifying final.

Kerang dominated the opening three quarters as it led 37-nil going into the last.

Mallee Eagles fought on to win the final term, 13-6, but it was the Blues who marked a 43-13 victory.

Oscar Greenwood and Hudson Taylor kicked two goals for Kerang as Beau Roberts and Madden Walker chipped in with one each.

Hamish Credlin kicked both goals for the Eagles.

Best for Kerang were Charlie and Oscar Greenwood, Deklyn Jolly, Saxon and Madden Walker, and Hudson Taylor.

Mallee’s best were Amon Roberts, Oscar Kingwill, Bohden Brown, Tony Fishwick, Deakin Wright and Blake Shepherd.

On Sunday it was Koondrook Barham which scored a 50-46 win against Tyntynder in the elimination final.

Tennysen O’Neill kicked two goals for the River Raiders as Alex Chisholm, Brodie Hall, Archie McDonald, Nate Pretty and Ryan Roberts were also on target.

Tyntynder’s attack was led by Hamish Lawry on a match-high four goals as Zaidon Key kicked two and Tyndarah Kelly slotted the other .

Best for Koondrook Barham were Alex Chisholm, Nate Pretty, Dustin Bohn, Ryan Roberts, Brodie Hall and Eddie Puddick.

Tyntynder’s best were Hamish Lawry, David Kuol, Seth Hovenden, Blade Stevens, Charlie Blake and Austin Wilson.
