Cohuna, Nyah Nyah West through to grand final

IT WILL be the Kangas against the Demons in next Saturday’s senior footy grand final as Cohuna tackles Nyah Nyah West United to cap the Radio 3SH Central Murray season.

The Corey Daniels-coached NNWU ran riot in Sunday’s second preliminary final to deny Woorinen a shot at back-to-back premierships.

After the Demons led 29-28 at quarter-time they slammed on six unanswered goals in the second  to be up 67-31.

The Tim Free-coached Woorinen scored the last goal of the half to make it 67-37 at the long break.

The Tigers were first to goal in the third.

It took more than 13 minutes for another goal to be registered.

A major for the Demons at 3.28 to play sparked a hat-trick of goals by the Tigers to be within nine points going into the final term.

Momentum then swung dramatically the way of the red and blue as NNWU scored six unanswered goals.

The Tigers kicked the final goal of the match, but it was the Demons’ players, coaches, volunteers and fans who celebrated a 114-73 victory and another grand final appearance.

Nyah Nyah West United’s attack was led by Alex Erlandson with four goals as Jordan Johnston and Jonathon Ross kicked three each and Charlie Boulton and Beau Schwarze booted two.

The Demons also had Corey Daniels, Joel Walsh, Liam White on target.

Leading goalkicker for Woorinen was Sam Hilton-Joyce on three as Jye Barry booted two and Rhys Cason, Lachlan Gardner, Tom Langford, Jamie Nicholas and Hugh Thompson added one.

Best for Nyah Nyah West United were Jordan Johnston, Joel Walsh, Mitch Grinham, Dominic Gallo, Jaydyn Stirling and Blake Larkings.

Taylor Cameron, Kane Reid, Lachie Martin, Jye Barry, Jamie Nicholas and Oscar Lewis played well for the yellow and black.

A seven-goal blitz in the first quarter by Cohuna Kangas set up an impressive win against Koondrook Barham in Saturday’s first preliminary final of senior footy at Balranald’s Greenham Park.

The Jack Geary-coached Kangas kicked away to lead 41-3 at quarter-time.

Koondrook Barham fought back to win the second, 21-7.

A high-scoring third term featured seven goals by Cohuna and five by the River Raiders.

The Kangas led 94-54 going into the final term.

The Marcus Demaria-coached Kooondrook Barham kept fighting on.

At the final siren Cohuna was up 111-67.

The Kangas’ attack was led by Daniel Coates and Tom Toma on three goals each as Jacob Mitchell kicked two.

Cohuna also had Corbin Anderson, Hudson Fountain, Joel Helman, Sam McGlone, Ricky Monti, Kain Robins, Ryder van der Zande slot a goal.

Leading goalkickers for the River Raiders were Harry Bremner, Clayton McCartney and Jack Shannon on two as Cameron Anderson, Kye Attwell, Ryan Bassett and Liam Read were also on target.

Best for Cohuna Kangas were Tom Toma, Brady Hore, Lachlan English, Ricky Monti, Jacob Mitchell and Jack Geary.

Koondrook Barham’s best were Jack Poulton, Jack Shannon, Kye Attwell, Jack Thomas, James Martin and Cameron Anderson.

In the reserves competition, Swan Hill stood up in a final quarter onslaught from Nyah Nyah West United to win Sunday’s second preliminary final at Kerang’s Riverside Park.

The Swans led 8-3 at quarter-time and then scored five goals as they kept the Demons to a tally of 1.3 in the second term.

Swan Hill then won a closely-fought third quarter, 15-7.

The Demons fired up to dominate most of the last quarter.

NNWU slammed on five goals, but Swan Hill’s score of 1.1 was enough to clinch a 61-52 victory.

Shannon Polglase led the Swans’ attack on three goals as Harry Scott slotted two and Conner Arif, Zac Cordwell, Jack Fletcher and Jett Hinton added one each.

Royce Free and Riley Haberman kicked two goals for the Demons as Kyle Armstrong, Dean Harrop and Aaron Threadgold  chipped in with one.

Swan Hill’s best were Will Burns, Matt Battenally, Matt Pearse, Tim O’Brien, Harry Graham and Jude Seymour.

Ben Shadobolt, Jason Manning, Kyle Doran, Joel Campbell, John Summerhayes and Cooper Andrews were NNWU’s best.

Mallee Eagles dominated Saturday’s reserves clash with Ultima in Balranald.

The Eagles led by 20 points at the first break and then scored six goals in the second quarter to be up 68-19 at the main break.

Both teams scored 2.1 in the third term.

Charlie Kingwill and Ethan Pinchen went on to kick four and three goals in a 115-39 victory.

Other goalkickers for Mallee Eagles were Liam Drummond, Brady Fordham, Mardy McDonald, Clem Miller 2; Cameron Cook and Jacob Wade.

Ultima’s attack was led by Bailey Codling and  Jack O’Rourke on three and two goals as Zac O’Brien kicked the other.

Best for the Eagles were Clem Miller, Jacob Wade, Ethan Pinchen, Andrew McDonald, Brady Fordham and Charlie Kingwill.

Ultima’s best were Martyn Cooper, Billy O’Toole, Ricky Wild, Lincoln Frost, Reece Harberger and Bryce Benfield.

A dominant last quarter by Swan Hill clinched a 15-point victory in the Colts clash with Lake Boga in the first preliminary final on Saturday in Balranald.

The Swans led 25-14 at quarter before Lake Boga took charge to win the second term, 33-14.

Both teams kicked three goals in the third as the Magpies were up 65-63 going into the final quarter.

The Swans did plenty of attacking.

As Swan Hill scored 3.6 it kept Lake Boga to a tally of 1.1.

The Swans led 87-72 at the siren.

Swan Hill’s attack was led by Jaron Cardenas, Bodhi and Jimmy Kelly on two goals each as Sonny Beasy, Sam Brown, Lane Cardenas, Noah Pearson and Darcy Uebergang added one.

Leading goalkickers for the Magpies were Bryce Anderson and Rory Davies with three each as Chad O’Sullivan slotted two and Ethan Clarke, Jarra Kelly and Max O’Reilly kicked one.

Best for Swan Hill were Sonny Beasy, Sam Brown, Lane Cardenas, Thomas Robertson, Jaron Cardenas and Harry Hunter.

The Magpies’ best were Max O’Reilly, Maximus Caruso, Chad O’Sullivan, Willem Pye, Rory Davies and Jake Steer.

Tooleybuc Manangatang dominated the Colts preliminary final clash with Kooondrook Barham on Sunday in Kerang.

The Saints racked up 35 scoring shots in a 100-34 win against the River Raiders at Riverside Park.

After racing to a 19-nil lead by quarter-time, Tooleybuc Manangatang’s tally of three goals in the second term was matched by Koondrook Barham.

The Saints slammed on seven goals in the third to be up by 71 points going into the final quarter.

Zach Lehner and Jedd Morris led the Saints’ attack with three goals as Connor Hazlett and Rydar Morris kicked two and Campbell Fisher, Shaun Kirby and Julian Muir added one each.

Leading goalkicker for the River Raiders was Nate Pretty on two as Jett Ferris, Tennyson O’Neill and Ryleigh Wilkinson were also on target.

Lake Boga turned a nine-point deficit at half-time into a 10-point win against Lake Boga in the first of the Mildura Health Fund under-15s preliminary finals on Saturday.

The Eagles led 19-10 at half-time before Lake Boga added 2.1 and kept Mallee scoreless in the third quarter on Balranald’s turf at Greenham Park.

Lake Boga won the last term, 8-2.

At the final siren the Magpies were up 31-21.

Goals for Lake Boga were kicked by Matt Haines, Lucas Pay, Oliver Pye and Brody Stevens.

Mason Day-Henery and Tony Fishwick were on target for Mallee Eagles.

Lake Boga’s best were Lane Lynas, Lucas Pay, Matt Haines, Ethan Clarke, Leevi Mayes and Emerson Doolan.

Best for the Eagles were Kade Wells, Blake Shepherd, Kelland Parsons, Aiden Kennedy, Bohden Brown and Patrick Kennedy.

Lake Boga will now tackle Swan Hill in the grand final.

The Swans were up 25-8 at half-time of Sunday’s second preliminary final against Murrabit in Kerang.

At a quarter to go Swan Hill led by 29 points.

Murrabit fought on to win the last, 20-18, but it was Swan Hill which recorded a 56-29 victory.

The Swans’ attack was led by Tallen Hinton with four goals as Archie Brown and Henry Cox kicked two and Tobias Caldwell the other.

Murrabit captain Leo Ellison slotted two goals as Jobe Hein and Zane McKerrow were on target.

Best for Swan Hill were Jace Lloyd, Lucas Germaine, Archie Brown, Ethan Germaine, Finn Hufer and Tallen Hinton.

Murrabit’s best were Leo Ellison, Parker Bray, Jobe Hein, Matthew Daniells, Archie McCombe and Blake O’Halloran.
