Thrilling finishes to under-14 semi-finals

A POINT was the final margin in both of the under-14 reserves, division one semi-finals played in the weekend’s Bendigo Junior Football League action.

Castlemaine fought on for a 38-37 win against Rochester in the second semi at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street.

The Magpies were down 24-35 at three quarter-time.

Castlemaine fired up in the last to score 2.2 and kept the Tigers to a tally of two behinds.

At the final siren the Magpies led the yellow and black, 38-37.

Declan Brasher led Castlemaine’s attack on two goals as Xavier Britt, Zane Davidge and Abraham Harrington kicked one each.

Rochester captain Archer Rasmussen booted a match-high three goals as George Mcfadzean also goaled for the Tigers.

Best for Castlemaine were Fian Blundell, Darragh Pryor, Declan Brasher, Abraham Harrington, Archie Culph and Evie Mountford.

Archer Rasmussen, Hugh Acocks, Mason Mundie, Harry Rasmussen, Judd Cuttriss and Harrison Wilkins were best for Rochester.

The first semi-final in the under-14 reserves, division one competition ended in a 52-51 win for White Hills Black against South Bendigo.

The Bloods led the Demons, 34-31 at half-time of the match at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo.

White Hills took a two-point lead into the final term after it won the third, 14-9.

Both teams scored a goal in the last as the red and black marked a 52-51 victory.

Goalkickers for White Hills were Lon Schelfhout on three, along with Nicholas Griffiths, Ethan McDonnell, Cooper Waegeli and Jack Yates.

The Bloods’ attack was led by Jed King and Flynn Todd on three and two as Toby Eddy also goaled.

Best for White Hills were Lon Schelfhout, Ethan McDonnell, Blaik Campbell, Oliver Clark, Preston Anfuso and Roman Middleton.

South Bendigo’s best were Bennett Kemmer, Jed King, Toby Eddy, Charles Kochar, Finn Cullen and Isaac Manley.

Week two in the finals campaign kicked off with Friday night’s under-12 girls matches at Bendigo’s Ewing Park.

St Therese’s won the second semi-final against St Francis Green by 40 points.

Elsie Gretgrix and Perry Westley both kicked three goals in a 46-6 victory for the Sharks.

Best for St Therese’s were Elsie Gretgrix, Perry Westley, Leni Hughes, Eden Haythorpe, Sage Reid and Eily Ellis-Fedke.

Eden Rogers, Layla Hand, Albie Tyler, Bella Hope, Ivy Pinner and Pippa Fishley were best for St Francis Green.

In the first semi-final, Golden Square won the under-12 girls match against Rochester by nine points.

It was Rochester which led 12-6 at quarter-time before Golden Square took control and was up 25-12 by the long break.

The Tigers won the third, 12-6, and was within seven points going into the final term.

Defences dominated the last as the Bulldogs clinched a 33-24 victory.

Goalkickers for Golden Square were captain Ruby Carter on two, along with Molly Dang, Lola Kennedy and Abigail Potter.

The Tigers’ attack was led by Meila Dickinson and Frankie Hay with two each.

Best for Golden Square were Abigail Potter, Emily Curnow, Matilda Sobey, Stella Tully, ruby Carter and Molly Dang.

Frankie Hay, Ella Forde, Ava Rasmussen, Meila Dickinson, Macey Macfarlane and Billie Watson played well for Rochester.

Maiden Gully YCW Eagles won the under-12A second semi-final against Golden Square by 15 points.

The Eagles led 20-6 at half-time of the clash in Kangaroo Flat’s Dower Park.

An evenly-fought third term went Maiden Gully YCW’s way, 14-13.

It was 13-all in the last as the Eagles won 47-32.

Scott Davis led Maiden Gully YCW’s attack on three goals as Tommy Clapp, Hudson Membrey, Finn Mitrovic and Ethan Van Den Aarsen added one each.

The Bulldogs’ goalkickers were Cooper Smith, three; Teddy Eaton and captain Logan Shatwell.

Best for Maiden Gully YCW Eagles were Sam Sohal, Thomas Ralphs, Scott Davis, Ethan Van Den Aarsen, Hudson Jenkins and Tommy Clapp.

Charlie Pell, Issac Taylor, Archie and Levi Walsh, Lachlan Baker and Cooper Smith played well for the Bulldogs.

Castlemaine advanced to the under-12B grand final after a 26-19 win against Huntly in the second semi-final.

The Magpies and Hawks played at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street.

Castlemaine led 10-6 at half-time, but the Hawks took control in the third quarter.

As Huntly scored two goals it kept the Magpies to a point.

The Hawks were up 18-11 going into the final term.

Castlemaine fought back to score 2.3 and kept Huntly to a point.

At the final siren the Magpies led 26-19.

Goalkickers for Castlemaine were Patrick Brasher, captain Ted Cordy and Charlie Davis.

Rex Edwards slotted two goals as Kyan Manson was also on target for Huntly.

Best for Castlemaine were Sid Wiese, Miles Cheesman, Reuben O’Sullivan, Mehkai Brennan, Ted Cordy and Ned McMahon.

Kyan Manson, Mitchell Fahy, Austin Mountjoy and Henry Andrews played well for the brown and gold.

The under-12B first semi-final ended in  a two-point win for Heathcote against Strathfieldsaye.

The Saints and Storm played at Kangaroo Flat’s Dower Park.

Strathfieldsaye led 21-14 at half-time before Heathcote won the third quarter, six-nil.

The Saints scored 1.3 and kept Storm to a goal in the last to complete a 29-27 victory.

Goalkickers for Heathcote were Jack Brooke, two; Eric Hagan and Hunter Harvey.

Sam Green kicked a match-high three goals for Storm as Noah McGovern added the other.

Heathcote’s best were Harry Dellar, Taj Barrett, Luca Slee, Noah Burton, Noah Barrett and Cooper Mitchell.

Best for Strathfieldsaye were Willis Mannix, Landon Nankervis, Elliott Kelly, Rafferty Stevens, Sam Green and Teddy Taylor.

White Hills Black marked a 32-point win against St Kilian’s-St Peter’s in the under-12C second semi-final played at Eaglehawk’s Canterbury Park.

The Demons won 35-3 as Patrick Millar kicked three goals and Hudson Ruffell added the other for the team in red and black.

Best for White Hills were Will Browne, Max Clark, Patrick Millar, Oliver Anfuso, Jackson Boyd and Noah Fuller.

Jimmy Cox, Finn Rees, Angus Mitchell, Lucas McCarthy and Josiah Patton played well for St Kilian’s-St Peter’s.

St Monica’s won the under-12D second semi-final against Kangaroo Flat by 21 points.

Both mobs of Kangaroos played at Kangaroo Flat’s Dower Park.

Fletcher Andrews, Elodie Hoyland and Aloe Randall kicked goals as St Monica’s marked a 22-1 victory.

Best for St Monica’s were Kyal Fowler, Jaxon McLean, Fletcher Andrews, Harry Sheldon, Jasper Duguid and Blaine O’Brien.

Roman Grinter, Seb Hetherton, Eli Vance, Cooper Cass, Mackenzie Rowe and Otis Mahon played well for Kangaroo Flat.

Strathfieldsaye dominated the under-14 seniors second semi-final against South Bendigo.

Storm charged to a 56-19 lead by half-time of the match at Eaglehawk’s Canterbury Park.

Strathfieldsaye won the next two quarters – 23-8 and 32-6.

By the final siren Storm was up 111-33.

Miller Polglase capped a great match with five goals as Charlie Giddings and Tadhg O’Keefe kicked three each.

Storm also had Jed Monaghan slot two majors as Lenny Hancock, Archer Horan and Wynn Jackson were also on target.

South Bendigo’s attack was led by Kyah Weeks on two as Blaine Anderson, Harvey Long and Lachlan Turnbull added one each.

Best for Strathfieldsaye were Charlie Giddings, Miller Polglase, Hudson Svanosio, Zander Walker, Archer Horan and Jed Monaghan.

Wesley Scholtes, Kyah Weeks, Tyson Floreani, Cael White, Ryan Packer and Jagger Thurgood were best for the Bloods.

White Hills Red scored a 31-point win against Kangaroo Flat in the under-14 reserves, division two second semi-final.

The Demons led 33-17 by half-time on the Kangaroos’ ground in Dower Park.

White Hills won the next two terms – 14-6 and 9-2.

By the final siren White Hills Red was up 56-25.

Goalkickers for the Demons were Charlie Boland and Noah Kalstrom, two; captain Lucas Hunt, Arlow Smith, Tamati McLarty and Tobi Nichols.

Chase Brown, Macklin Travers and Ben Wilson were on target for the Kangaroos.

A list of best players for White Hills Red was not supplied.

Kangaroo Flat’s best were Jett Lower, Darby Lamb, Rydder Gudge, Korbin Hull, Mitch Bird and Sam Colbert.

The Sandhurst A line-up progressed to the under-15 Girls seniors grand final after a 51-33 win against Marong in the second semi-final at Kangaroo Flat’s Power Park.

A closely-fought first half ended with Sandhurst in front, 23-18.

Quarter three went the way of the maroon and blue, 10-8.

Sandhurst scored three goals in the final term and kept Marong to a tally of 1.1.

By the final siren the Dragons led 51-33.

Goalkickers for Sandhurst were Layla Burn, two; Molly Beasley, Eliza Chapman, Evie Frankum, Evie Gretgrix and Etta Place.

The Panthers’ attack was led by Molly Austin on two goals as Phoebe England, Allie Grant and co-captain Tianna Shay chipped in with one each.

Best for Sandhurst were Elke Fletcher, Indie Kramer, Evie Gretgrix, Etta Place, Layla Burn and Molly Beasley.

Marong’s best were Alyssa Wardell, Phoebe England, Molly Austin, Mia Berryman, Frankie Stevens and Taylah Dudderidge.

Sandhurst won the under-16 seniors second semi-final against Strathfieldsaye by 29 points.

The Dragons and Storm clashed at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street.

Strathfieldsaye led 22-21 at quarter-time, but it was the Dragons who controlled the second term.

As the maroon and blue scored 3.2 it kept Storm to a tally of two behinds.

By half-time Sandhurst led 41-24.

The Dragons were up 63-31 going into the final term.

Strathfieldsaye fought on to win the last, 19-16, but it was Sandhurst which led 79-50 at the siren.

Goalkickers for Sandhurst were Jett Craig, four; Henry O’Callaghan, three; Jamison Westley, two; and Zane MacDonald and Patrick McNamara.

Storm’s attack was led by Charlie Elliott and Lucas Sharam on two as captain Sam O’Bree, Jesse Webster and Angus White slotted a goal each.

Best for Sandhurst were Max Connick, Duncan Strachan, Riley Travaglia, Jett Craig, Nicholas Harvey and Jaxon Kelly.

Angus White, Charlie Elliott, Lucas Sharam, Jesse Webster, Aydan Hand and Nicholas Loorham played well for Strathfieldsaye.

The Huntly Hawks soared to a 37-point win against Strathfieldsaye in the under-16 reserves, division one second semi-final at Canterbury Park in Eaglehawk.

The Hawks charged to a 39-6 lead by quarter-time and were up 48-14 by the long break.

Storm won the third, 11-7, but it was Huntly which led 63-26 at the final siren.

Caleb Pellegrino led Huntly’s attack on three goals as Zayver Marwood booted two.

The Hawks also had captain Oscar Davies, Cooper Horsfall, Zethan Jensen and Rhys Pitson add a goal.

Kobi Read kicked two goals for Strathfieldsaye and Tyson Sherwell added the other.

Huntly’s best were Caleb Pellegrino, Zane Whyte, Cash Caldis, Rhys Fahy, Zethan Jensen and Oscar Kleinert.

Best for Storm were Nicholas Hietbrink, Oden Dean, Kobi Read, Dominic Gormly, Sam Whitford and Nate Fitzpatrick.

Maiden Gully YCW Eagles stayed in the premiership race as they won the first semi-final; against Marong by 73 points.

The Eagles dominated played at Eaglehawk’s Canterbury Park to record an 86-13 victory.

Joel Wittingslow kicked six goals in a best-on-ground performance as captain Cooper Attard added two.

Other goalkickers for the Panthers were Josh Bellenger, Jasper Morcombe, Slater Piazza, Drew Warren and Angus Weeks.

Nattai Carter was on target for Marong.

Best for Maiden Gully YCW were Joel Wittingslow, Drew Warren, Jack Moresi, Jasper Morcombe, Leo Wilson and Darcy Wallace.

Marong’s best were Elliot Bird, Jaxon Marwood, Harry Dunn, Jack Miller, Harry Wilson and Jack Metherell.

Lockington Bamawm United Cats showed they will be tough to beat for the under-16 reserves, division two premiership.

The LBU Cats charged to a 134-33 victory in the second semi-final showdown with Letitchville Gunbower in North Bendigo.

In a brilliant start, LBU scored five goals in the first term to be up 33-18 at the break.

The Cats added six majors in the second as LG added 2.3.

By half-time LBU led 72-33.

In the second half Lockington Bamawm United slammed on another nine goals and kept Leitchville Gunbower scoreless.

Harrison Condliffe led LBU’s attack on five goals as Campbell Keele kicked four and Bryce Read and Cory Rowlands chipped in with three each.

Other goalkickers for the Cats were Declan Carmichael and Braxton Hann, two each, and Charlie McIntyre.

The Bombers’ leading goalkickers was Jasper Hare on two as Nathan Mihailovic, Bailey James Roderick McInnes and Tait Simmonds booted one each.

Best for LBU were Jack Mundie, Cory Rowlands, Braxton Hann, Mason Bloomfield, Cody Cook and Royce Serpell.

The Bombers’ best were Jasper Hare, Xander Patrick Tuohey, Tait Simmonds and Judd Spittal.
