RESULTS – Lake Boga wins thrilling contest with Cohuna

THE Magpies from Lake Boga swooped to score a two-point win against Cohuna Kangas in Saturday’s first round in the Radio 3SH-backed Central Murray FNL senior footy season.

After surging to a 38-23 lead by half-time Lake Boga faced a one-goal deficit going into the final term after the Kangas won the third term, 31-10.

In the last it was the Magpies who scored 2.5 and kept Cohuna to a tally of 1.3.

Lake Boga’s players and fans celebrated a 65-63 victory.

Jayden Lonergan led the Magpies’ attack on two goals.

Leading goalkickers for Cohuna were Lachlan English and Tom Toma on two.

Best for the Dean Helmers-coached Lake Boga were Marty Parsons, Bryce Anderson, Rex Hickman, Braden Padmore, Darcy Butler and Xavier Sherlock.

Tom Toma, Travis Ford, Cooper McLoughlan, Brady Hore, Corbin and Chris Anderson were best for the Jack Geary-coached Kangaroos.

Nyah Nyah West United outplayed reigning premier Woorinen in the rematch of last September’s grand finalists on Nyah’s turf.

The Demons led 28-14 at quarter-time and 49-23 by the main break.

Woorinen hit back to win the third term, 15-12, but it was the NNWU team which finished full of running.

The Demons slammed on six goals in the last to complete a 102-46 victory.

Jordan Johnston and John Summerhayes led the attack on three goals each as Charlie Boulton and Beau Schwarze slotted two.

The Tigers’ attack was led by Jose Miliado on three.

Best for the Corey Daniels-coached Demons were Jordan Johnston, Scott Carlin, Joel Walsh, Ethan Saville, Jaydyn Stirling and Blake Larkings.

Oscar Lewis, Jose Miliado, Robert Rush, Jye Barry, Elijah Miliado and Hugh Thompson were best for the Tim Free-coached Woorinen.

Koondrook Barham won every quarter in an 83-55 win against Hay at Barham.

The River Raiders led 20-8 at quarter-time and 33-16 by the main break.

Best quarter was the third where Koondrook Barham scored 5.5 and Hay added 4.1.

The Marcus Demaria-coached River Raiders won the last term by a point.

Goalkicking details were not supplied.

Best for Koondrook Barham were Cameron Arnold, Cameron Anderson, Reagan Hamilton, Harry Bremner, Riley Paterson and Ryan Bartlett.

Will Wolbers, Dylan Adkins, Fergus Cattanach, Liam Whitbourne, Harry Loughnan and Tom Sheldrick were Hay’s best.

The Lions are jointly coached by Mick Cattanach and James Moran.

Mallee Eagles soared to a 125-point win against Balranald at Lalbert.

The Eagles led 47-6 at quarter-time and 81-7 by the main break.

Mallee held an 88-point lead going into the final term and did not let up as it scored 5.7 in the last and kept the Roos scoreless.

At the final siren the Harry Allen-coached Eagles led 139-14.

Goalkicking details were not supplied.

Best for Mallee Eagles were Harry Allen, Darcy McGregor, Billy and Jacob O’Meara, Shaun Harrison and Tom McGregor.

Ian Fuller, Toby Lay, Jordan Wilkins, Jack Salau, Joseph Scalora and Ryan Middlebrook were Balranald’s best.

The Kangaroos are coached by Brent Macleod.

The rivalry between Moulamein and Murrabit rolled on.

Both clubs have crossed from the defunct Golden Rivers competition.

It was Moulamein which charged to a 36-9 lead by quarter-time on its turf.

The Swans won the second, 47-19.

The Rick Ladson and Jack Shannahan-coached Murrabit struck back to score four goals and kept Moulamein to a goal in the third quarter.

A high-scoring final term went Moulamein’s way, 55-21.

Adam Curry was in hot form as he kicked six goals and Brett Kennedy added five goals in the 146-75 victory.

Other multiple goalkickers for the Brodie Tonkin and Hayden Dalitz-coached Swans were Heath Moloney and Tobie Richardson with two.

Murrabit’s attack was led by Leo Ellison and Adam Thomson with four and two goals.

Best for Moulamein were Thomas Worthley, Charlie Bowes, Adam Curry, Brett Kennedy, Heath Moloney and Jack Jones.

Jack Shannahan, Leo Ellison, Sam Copland, Ben Derbas, Bryden Morison and Wade Minter were best for the Blues.

Kerang took on Wandella on the Blues’ turf at Kerang’s Riverside Park.

The Brad Pay-coached Blues led 20-1 at quarter-time and 56-1 by half-time.

Wandella hit back to win the third term, 14-9.

Kerang dominated the last to score seven goals on the way to a 111-15 victory.

Zak Bozanich was in superb touch as he kicked eight goals and Hugh Bremner booted two.

Wandella’s goalkickers were John Cooper and Matt Wilkinson.

Best for Kerang were Bohden McKnight, Damian Byrne, Jonah McKnight, Ian Fisher, Tyson Clingan  and Kane Wilson.

Matt Wilkinson, Nathan Boysen, Justin Robinson, Darcy Ramage, Kaine O’Connell and Jack Radcliffe were best for the Justin Robinson-coached Bombers.

Tooleybuc Manangatang outran Tyntynder on Tooleybuc’s turf.

The Saints led 27-3 at quarter-time and 53-16 by the main break.

An attack led by Josh Chatfield, five goals; Austin Hodge and Rydar Morris, three, capped off many of Tooleybuc Manangatang’s moves in a 129-41 victory.

Best for the Saints were Rydar Morris, Robbie McComb, Gareth Grant, Josh Chatfield and Austin Hodge.

Sam Bull, Cayden Crowe, Jahmahl Jenkins-Clive, Patrick Crowe and Eddy Schifferle were best for the Darcy Bibby-coached Bulldogs.

It was a rest for Swan Hill and Ultima who played in Round Zero on March 28.

The Jason Murphy-coached Swans won that clash on their turf by 57 points.

In next Saturday’s second round, Woorinen will unfurl the ’25 premiership flag before it tackles Mallee Eagles in the Tigers’ den at Woorinen from 2.30pm.

Tooleybuc Manangatang faces a big test on Tooleybuc’s turf against Nyah Nyah West United.

Tyntynder will play Ultima at Swan Hill’s Alan Garden Reserve.

Cohuna Kangas will aim to bounce back against Kerang at Cohuna Recreation Reserve.

Balraland hosts Lake Boga at Greenham Park.

Wandella and Koondrook Barham meet in the Bombers’ hangar at Wandella Recreation Reserve.

Hay and Moulamein renew their rivalry from Golden Rivers days on Hay’s turf.

Murrabit takes on Swan Hill at Murrabit Recreation Reserve.
