RESULTS – Knoll kicks 13 goals in Castlemaine’s big win

GUN recruit Shelby Knoll kicked 13 goals in Castlemaine’s victory against Bendigo Thunder in Sunday’s second round clash in Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy competition.

The Magpies dominated play on Thunder’s turf at Weeroona Oval win by 212 points.

Back with Castlemaine after her AFLW debut with Richmond last summer, Knoll was in superb touch.

Other leading goalkickers for the Magpies were Abbey Klemm, four; Paynton Jolliffee, three; and  Tiffany Bradley, Tiahna Cochrane and Rebekah Forrest, two.

Best for the Jordan Cochrane-coached Castlemaine were Grace Brady, Shelby Knoll, Mikaela Trethowan, Paynton Jolliffe, Breannan Ross and Mikayla Gellatly.

Stacey Barbagallo, Morgan O’Neil, Hollie Maher, Breanna Quinton, Archie Mclachlan and Yanna Hender were best for the Mick McInnes-coached Thunder.

Golden Square scored a 10-goal win on Eaglehawk’s turf at C & M Oval at Canterbury Park.

The match was transferred from Golden Square’s ground in Wade Street.

Eaglehawk led 13-8 at quarter-time, but the Darren Walsh-coached Golden Square dominated the next three terms.

The blue and gold added six goals across the next two terms and kept the Hawks scoreless.

Golden Square won the last, 26-1.

Lily Mansfield led the attack on three goals as Gabby Drage and Gemma Roberts added two in a 76-14 victory.

The Hawks’ goalkickers were Kelly Mensforth and coach Molly Metcalf.

Best for Golden Square were Ava Barker, Karley Hynes, Heidi Schneider, Liz Watkins, Gemma Roberts and Lily Mansfield.

Emily Field, Lexie Moss, Monique Gavriliadis, Caitlin Evans, Alannah Leach and Molly Metcalf were the Borough’s best.

Sandhurst marked a 31-point win against White Hills in the Demons’ den in Scott Street.

The Dragons led 18-nil at quarter-time and 20-6 by the main break.

As the Liam Ireland and Andrew Saladino-coached Sandhurst added two goals in the second half it kept the Demons scoreless on the way to a 37-6 victory.

Taylah Klemm led Sandhurst’s attack on two goals.

Best for the Dragons were Taylah Klemm, Lily Campbell, Chloe Taylor, Katrina Alford, Ruby Campbell and Lauren Suleiman.

Sasha Pearce, Tracey Anderson, Chelsea and Acacia Edwards, Courtney Collard and Courtney Gibson were best for the Sharni Barker and Allara Jackson-coached Demons.

Wedge-Tailed Eagles soared to a 172-nil win on Marong’s turf in Malone Park.

Jorja Bennett , Kareena Jacobsen-Logan and Emma Williams all kicked five goals.

Other multiple goalkickers for the Eagles were Brooke Cowan, Emily Gibson and Aisha Mansfield.

Best for the Phil Hawkes-coached Eagles were Kareena Jacobsen-Logan, Teagan Ainslie, Jorja Bennett, Alicia Chadwick, Ayesha Nicholson and Lucy Lenius.

A list of best for the Brett Carter-coached Marong was not supplied.

The league marks a return to Queen Elizabeth Oval this Sunday when Sandhurst takes on Castlemaine from 1pm.

Wedge-Tailed Eagles mark their first home match in CVFL action when they play Golden Square at Woodend’s Racecourse Reserve from 1pm.

Eaglehawk and White Hills meet on the Borough’s turf at C & M Oval in Canterbury Park.

Bendigo Thunder will play Marong at Weeroona Oval in Napier Street.
