Heathcote marks stunning victory at Colbinabbin

THE Saints from Heathcote charged to a 13-point victory at Colbinabbin in Saturday’s fifth round in the Agnico Eagle Fosterville Gold Mine Heathcote DFNL senior footy action.

Scores were locked on 47-all at half-time of the contest on Colbinabbin’s turf at M.J. Morgan Oval.

Heathcote then won the third term, 15-9.

There would no final quarter fade-out from the Saints this time as they scored 1.2 and kept the Grasshoppers to a point.

At the final siren Heathcote led 70-57.

The pacy Justin Bateson capped a superb match with four goals as key forward Dylan Johnstone slotted three.

Colbinabbin’s attack was led by Laine Fitzgerald on two.

It was a superb defensive effort by a Heathcote team coached by Andrew Saladino, non-playing, and Liam Jacques, playing, to limit the Grasshoppers to a tally of eight goals.

Best for the Saints were Will Tobin, Ryan Foster, Dillon Williams, Liam Jacques, Justin Bateson and Rhys Bolton.

Jude Ryan, Tanner Nally, Toby Howlett, Nathan Basile, Angus Martin and Charlie Ryan were best for the Linton Jacobs-coached Colbinabbin.

The inclusion of former Essendon captain Dyson Heppell to Lockington Bamawm United’s team was a huge plus as the Cats took on Leitchville Gunbower at Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval.

Heppell added 253 games of AFL experience on a day where LBU marked Mates for Men’s Health Day.

On the field it was the LG Bombers who led 20-9 by quarter-time.

Lockington Bamawm United hit back to dominate the second term.

As they Cats added 5.6 they kept the Bombers to a goal.

A hard-fought third term went LBU’s way, 13-4.

With Heppell playing a key role in midfield, LBU scored another three goals in the last to complete an 80-40 victory.

Wearing number 21, Heppell finished with a match-high three goals as Brayden Hull and Nick Smart slotted two.

Leading goalkickers for the Bombers were Jack Dye and Josh Koster with two each.

A three-time winner of the Sam Cheatley Medal as league fairest and best, Tyler Phillips was best on ground for LBU as Brayden Hull, Nick Smart, Jack O’Callaghan, Bowden Stone and Joseph Wolfe also starred for the Jayden Howe-coached Cats.

Nic Cattapan, Josh Koster, Jye Keath, Ben Paterson, Luke Davis and Xavier Colvin were best for the Joel Donehue-coached Bombers.

After being outscored in the opening term, Mount Pleasant took control on Elmore’s turf to win by 57 points.

The Luke Freeman-coached Elmore made a promising start to lead 20-16 by the first break.

Although it was outscored by 10 points in the second, Elmore was within a goal of the reigning premier at half-time.

Mount Pleasant won the third, 38-12, and then scored another four goals in the last as the Bloods added two behinds.

By the final siren the Blues led 99-42.

The brilliant Ben Weightman led Mount Pleasant’s attack on three goals as Ed Harrop, Jaxson Nihill and Adam Triplett added two each.

Leading goalkicker for the Bloods was Ashton Sinn on two.

Best for Mount Pleasant were Jett Nicholas, Brodie Montague, Xavier Carter, Jaxson Nihill, William Wallace and Jack Hickman.

The Blues are jointly coached by Josh Hann, playing, and Cam Carter, non-playing.

Elmore’s best were Charlie O’Toole, Matt Filo, Peter Rothacker, Lachie Munro, Rhys Holmberg and Matt O’Dwyer.

At North Bendigo the Bulldogs marked a 113-point win against White Hills at Bendigo Club Oval in Atkins Street.

Scores were locked on 22-all at quarter-time.

In a remarkable feat, North Bendigo scored 7.4 in the second term and racked up the same tally in the third and fourth terms on the way to a 160-47 victory.

Jake Dean led the Bulldogs’ attack on five goals as Dylan Klemm kicked four.

The Bulldogs had Darcy Richards slot three goals as Storm Giri, co-coach Ryan Hartley, Harry McCormick and Cody Riddick kicked two each.

Mitch Dole, Cohen Kekich and Lachlan Martin led the Demons’ attack on two goals apiece.

Best for North Bendigo were Ryan Hartley, Bailey Cain, ruckman Jordan Hargreaves, Liam Dillon, Harrison Jarvie and Dylan Klemm.

The Bulldogs have Rob Bennett as non-playing co-coach.

Nicholas O’Brien, Lachlan Martin, Doolan Nihill, Liam Monaghan, Jack Lawton and Josh Harris were best for White Hills.

The Demons are jointly coached by Brad McConnell and Lachie Sawyer.

Harlowe Huntly Hawks had the bye.

The rematch of ’25 grand finalists Mount Pleasant and North Bendigo at Toolleen from 2.20pm highlights next Saturday’s sixth round.

After a stunning victory on Colbinabbin’s ground, Heathcote returns to Pigeon Park in Barrack Reserve to play Elmore.

Leitchville Gunbower tackles Colbinabbin at Gunbower.

The Harlowe Huntly Hawks face Lockington Bamawm United in the clash of the Hawks and Cats at Huntly’s Strauch Reserve.

White Hills has the bye.

In the netball………THE Lockington Bamawm United Cats celebrated their first A-grade netball win of the season in Saturday’s round six clash with Leitchville Gunbower.

It was a top contest between the Cats and Bombers played at Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval in the Agnico Eagle Fosterville Gold Mine Heathcote DFNL action.

The Stacy Bacon-coached Cats clawed their way to a 56-52 win against the Bombers.

Was another closely-fought finish match for the Katie Pollock-coached LG Bombers who in the previous round played out a 49-all draw with the Harlowe Huntly Hawks.

At North Bendigo the Bulldogs could not halt the White Hills line-up scoring a 13-goal victory.

Although the Kiralee Kinder-coached North Bendigo had home court advantage at Bendigo Club Oval in Atkins Street it was White Hills which controlled a lot of the play.

By the final whistle the Elley Lawton-coached Demons led 46-33.

Last season’s grand finalists in Colbinabbin and Mount Pleasant marked emphatic wins.

Unbeaten in its quest for back-to-back premierships, Colbinabbin took on Heathcote at M.J. Morgan Oval in Colbinabbin.

The Jen McIntyre-coached Grasshoppers won 45-13.

A strong defensive effort kept the Brooke Price-coached Heathcote to a tally of 13 goals.

Mount Pleasant made its way to Elmore to face the Bloods.

The Anthea McCleary-coached Mounts scored a 60-goal victory.

As the Blues reached 85 goals they were just as impressive on the defensive aspects of the game as they held the Adam Boldiston-coached Elmore to a score of 25 goals.

The Harlowe Huntly Hawks had the bye.

Heathcote will aim to seize on the chance to chalk up win number two when it plays Elmore at Pigeon Park in Heathcote’s Barrack Reserve from 3pm.
